VACAVILLE — Shots rang out Saturday at Peña Adobe and one couldn’t help but flinch even if you were expecting it. The noise made it clear Western Day had returned to the park for a day of family fun. The gunslingers making all the noise are a group made up of a lot of former police officers and members from several other Western reenactor groups, such as the Sierra Nevada Guns for Hire, according to Eric Leintz, one of the Congressional Gunfighters of

dedicated to military victory and new fighting flared along eastern front lines. “The president’s order has been carried out,” Iryna Vereshchuk, Ukraine’s deputy prime minister, posted on the Telegram messaging app, offering little further detail. “This part of the Mariupol humanitarSee Ukraine, Page A11

America’s founders. This will be the seventh year for the Congressional Gunfighters of America to come out for Western Day. The group is dedicated to preserving Old West history, specializing in live entertainment. They hosted gunfight demonstrations and answered questions about firearms safety. “We want to share the history of the area with visitors,” Cricket Kanouff, president of the Peña Adobe Historical Society, said. The Peña Adobe is the oldest structure built in Solano County. It was built in 1842 by Juan Felipe

Peña after he and Juan Manuel Vaca arrived in Vaca Valley from the New Mexico region. The day also included lasso lessons. Dominick Grable, 6, of Fairfield, was having a great time trying to capture the “sheep” on the lawn. “This is the first time we have come to this,” Dominick’s father, Ivan Grable, said. “I think the place is really cool. There is a lot of history here that I didn’t know about.” Ivan’s father, Dave Grable, See Western, Page A11
