FAIRFIELD — Stefan Chatwin is out as city manager after a divided City Council voted Wednesday night to accept his resignation as the city’s top administrator and agree to portions of his separation agreement. The vote was 5-1, with Councilwoman Catherine Moy voting against Chatwin’s departure and Councilwoman Pam Bertani absent. City Attorney David Lim reported the vote, which came during a special closed session meeting of the City Council that started at 5 p.m. The city was looking for its next city manager less than two hours later. City offices were closed chatwin both Thursday and Friday in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday. Chatwin remains on the job through Tuesday. He begins two months of administrative leave Wednesday, Lim said. His separation date from the city is Jan. 31. Lim said Assistant City gassAway Manager/Community Development David Gassaway will serve as interim city manager, effective Wednesday. City Councilman Chuck Timm said in a text message Thursday that Chatwin submitted his resignation to the council and it was accepted. He said the council voted to invoke portions lim of Chatwin’s employment contract as they relate to his separation from the city. Timm said Chatwin asked for the council to consider additional items, which were also part of the council vote. Timm did not specify what those additional items entailed. City Councilman Scott Tonnesen in a text message Thursday confirmed Timm’s assessment of the situation. Details of the settlement agreement between Chatwin and the city remain to be finalized, Lim said. The final language of the settlement, to include a financial payout total and any other compensation or considerations, will be added as they are settled. Lim characterized the process See Council, Page A8

VACAVILLE — It is not just about getting a hot Thanksgiving meal for many of the more than 800 individuals who received just that Thursday from the Vacaville Veterans. “Some of them tell us their stories,” said Olivia Granada, 11, who along with her friend, Delaney Dion, 11, was helping her mother, Melissa Courville, deliver some of the meals prepared by the veterans and the more than 200 volunteers who prepared, assembled and got the meals out. “Some of them had lost their husbands from going into the service,” Granada said.

times are not easy. Dion remembers one family in particular. “We knocked on the door and this 14-yearold boy came to the door and his brothers and

sisters came running up and were so excited,” she recalled. When the volunteers asked if their mother was home, they learned she was taking her dialysis treatment and the meals being delivered were the children’s Thanksgiving dinner. Courville said she learned about the veterans meal program from her father, Steve Alexander, a 13-year veteran of the U.S. Navy, but got involved mostly because of a friend, Tammy Alexander, an Army veteran, who also volunteers at the event along with her son, Micha. Courville said she understands what it is like

ROCKVILLE — There was a lot of gratitude being expressed Thursday at the 13th annual Solano Turkey Trot at Solano Community College. Not surprising since it was Thanksgiving – a day when blessings are supposed to be held up in appreciation and praise. Certainly there was no bigger smile than the one shining from Ann Marie Cody of Sunnyvale, who with an unofficial time of 45 minutes and 45 seconds over the 10K road course (6.2 miles) shattered the Guinness World Records mark for the distance while pushing triplets. The previous mark, held by a Montana mom with three children of different ages, was 47:10. “It won’t be official until I send in my evidence, and it will take a couple of months,” Cody said. The evidence includes a video of her running in the race, as well as photos taken along the route by a friend. “We were a little lonely for the first half (of the race),” said Cody, who along with her trio of
