SUISUN CITY — The word “brouhaha” is reportedly from the Hebrew, meaning “blessed be he who enters.” It’s fitting then that the Big Solano Brewhaha bestows not only beer but blessings onto the community. The annual event has taken place all over the county and always raises money for a good cause. This year, the 8th Annual Brewhaha set up shop at the Joseph A. Nelson Community Center. Local

brewers both small and large set up tents to offer samples that ranged from tried-and-true lagers to chocolate chip cookie ale. Proceeds from the event went to the Fairfield Community Services Foundation. Board member Sheila McCabe said the money will go to support youth and senior advocacy, such as a Thanksgiving drive-thru food giveaway and backpack giveaways for back-to-school months. Michalle Shown-Rodriguez, director of development at Child Haven Inc., organized Saturday’s event, bringing together bands,

beers and barbecuers. “This isn’t about celebrating beer, this is about celebrating community,” she said. OK, but the beer was pretty impressive. “I tried that one, that one and that one,” said a jovial Nolan McCoy Jr., pointing to various taps. He and his wife Tasia were enjoying sampling as much as possible. She even had the chocolate chip cookie ale. The most raucous and frankly fun bunch were the Solano Garage See Cause, Page A8

Solano preps $5.1M request to state to fund 4 levee projects Todd R. Hansen thansen@dailyrepublic.net

FAIRFIELD — Solano County supervisors on Tuesday will consider plans to seek more than $5.1 million from the state to fund levee projects in the Cache Slough area. The board’s consideration of sending a letter to the state Department of

Water Resources requesting $5.125 million for four levee projects is part of a 29-item consent calendar. The letter states that the projects meet the objectives of the January 2020 memorandum of understanding the county reached with DWR. “Since executing the MOU, DWR and county staff collaborated with

various local flood management entities to identify levee projects in the Cache Slough region of Solano County that match with existing state funding sources. In the Cache Slough region alone, Solano County identified 12 key levee projects as part of the Sacramento River Flood Control Project system,

totaling over $38 million,” the letter states. Four projects were then identified by flood management agencies for funding: n $1.725 million for Reclamation District 2068 to design upgrades on a 2.5-mile levee as part of the Yolo Bypass in order See Levee, Page A8
