Fauci says US turning the corner on Covid surge Tribune Content Agency WASHINGTON — The U.S. is turning the corner on the most recent surge in Covid-19 cases and more people need to get vaccinated to keep infections on a declining trend, infectious disease specialist Anthony Fauci said. Fauci, who is President Joe Biden’s chief medical adviser, said that while the full vaccination rate has reached 55%, the key risk is the 70 million eligible people in the U.S. who haven’t gotten a shot. FAUCI “We certainly are turning the corner on this particular surge,” Fauci said on ABC’s “This Week” on Sunday. “The way to keep it down, to make that turnaround continue to go down, is to do what we mentioned: get vaccinated.” Study results showing that a Merck & Co. experimental pill slashed the risk of getting seriously ill or dying from Covid-19 are “very impressive,” Fauci said on CNN’s “State of

Leaked fiscal records reveal billions hidden beyond reach Tribune Content Agency A sprawling investigation by an international consortium of journalists and news organizations uncovered millions of documents detailing how rich and politically connected individuals across the globe use offshore companies to avoid taxes and hoard wealth. The report published Sunday by the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists linked world leaders including the King of Jordan, Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta and former British Prime Minister Tony Blair to entities registered in locales including Panama and the British Virgin Islands that allowed them to hide their ownership of vast assets. Aides and allies of politicians who have railed against corruption and urged reforms, including Pakistan’s Prime Minister Imran Khan, were also shown to have taken advantage of accounting and tax loopholes enabled by offshore entities. Dead birds, fish wash ashore as oil spill reaches SoCal coast The Washington Post Officials warned of a potential ecological disaster after more than 120,000 gallons of oil leaked from an offshore rig and began washing up on beaches in Southern California as workers tried to contain the spill. The leak was reported Saturday afternoon, with the U.S. Coast Guard stating that the slick was about three miles off Newport Beach, a popular beach destination in Orange County about 50 miles southeast of downtown Los Angeles. Huntington Beach officials said the spill amounted to 126,000 gallons and has been patched up but “not completely stopped.” “The spill has significantly affected Huntington Beach, with substantial ecological impacts,” city officials said in a Sunday news release. Katrina Foley, an Orange County supervisor, tweeted that the oil spilled from Platform Elly, operated by
