VACAVILLE — Touro University California did its part Tuesday to raise the Covid-19 vaccination rate in the city. Vacaville has the lowest vaccination rate of Solano County’s seven cities – 68% – among its eligible population, according to Solano
Public Health. Touro conducted another Child and Adult Resource Education Support pop-up Covid-19 vaccination clinic Tuesday at the library in downtown Vacaville. Staff was on hand to answer questions about the vaccine and hopefully give more of us immunity from a virus that has claimed 652,480 lives so far, according to
the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Nurses, doctors and technicians were on hand to administer either the one-shot Johnson & Johnson/ Jannsen vaccine or one of the twodose Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine to those there by their own accord or were mandated to get vacciSee Clinic, Page A9
FAIRFIELD — Solano County employees will not be required to get Covid-19 vaccinations, but will have to honor mask requirements in city jurisdictions that have them. Benicia and Vallejo temporarily require everyone – vaccinated or not – to wear a mask in indoor public places. The state has the same mandate for individuals who are not vaccinated. Masks are required in all medical facilities, and in schools.
Benicia Mayor Steve Young was one of 17 individuals who called into the Board of Supervisors meeting Tuesday. The county also received more than 100 written correspondences, twothirds of which opposed the policies. The callers were slightly weighted in the other direction. Young urged the board to enact its own mask mandate, though that issue was never formally up for consideration. A county mask mandate for public indoor places was expected to be See Board, Page A9

Solano voters look to be staying with Newsom Daily Republic Staff

FAIRFIELD — Solano County voters have joined the early wave of support to keep Gov. Gavin Newsom in office. The Solano County Elections Office reported at 10:12 p.m. Tuesday that area voters were throwing their support behind Newsom by more than a 2-to-1 margin. The vote, in the county,
was 32.4% in favor of the recall, while around the state, results at the same time showed 33.7% in favor of ousting the governor. Lori Anderson drove from her rural Vacaville home to vote at the Solano County Registrar of Voters Office in Fairfield, but does not understand why she couldn’t just vote closer to home. The mix-up with her ballot, and polling location,
did not make her particularly happy, but maybe even more so was the fact she was not asked to show any kind of identification to get an in-person ballot to replace the mail-in ballot she brought with her. At the very least, the experience did not improve her confidence in the state elections system. On top of that, she has a basket full of reasons she wants Newsom out of the
