SUISUN CITY — The 2021 National Night Out kicked off Tuesday in an unusual way. The City Council gathered at 5 p.m. to issues two proclamations in front of the crowd at Carl E. Hall Park. Both proclamations acknowledged the work of The Salvation Army Kroc Center. One acknowledged the center’s efforts, along with the Suisun City Police Department, for

FAIRFIELD — Police officers, firefighters, city employees, City Council members, the mayor and Fairfield-Suisun School District officials all gathered Tuesday in front of City Hall before fanning out into the community for National Night Out. It was the first opportunity to head into the neighborhoods since 2019 to mingle with the community at their block

VACAVILLE — When Yuto Horigome of Japan won a gold medal in the inaugural street skateboarding competition at the Olympic Games in Tokyo, a famed Vacaville native was, in a way, right along for the ride. That’s because Nike’s world-famous skateboard shoe designer, Stefan Janoski, grew up right here in Solano

County and, for a time, in a home with his father Hank Janoski and his mother Margi Stern atop Mount Vaca. Most every shoe that Janoski designs now features the brand label on the tongue that includes his city of origin, Vacaville, California. Horigome just happened to be wearing Janoski’s new white “slip-on” model July 24 while he was negotiating the bumps, hills, stairs

and railings of the Olympic course with a gold-medal performance in Tokyo. Brazilian 13-year-old sensation Rayssa Leal also wore a pair of Janoski’s sneakers July 25 on her way to a silver in the women’s street skateboarding event. “He was excited,” said Stern of Stefan’s reaction to Yuto’s gold. “He put it on Instagram, so for him that was a big thing. He thought it was
