FAIRFIELD — Solano County’s property values increased in 2020-21 despite the economic shutdown in response to the Covid-19 pandemic. However, the pandemic did slow the rate of growth, the Solano County Assessor-Recorder’s Office reported. The county agency reported on Thursday the assessed value on local properties increased by $1.8 billion, or approximately 2.97%.
The value of assessable property in Solano County was more than $62.69 billion. “This is the ninth year that the total assessed roll value increased countywide,” Glenn Zook, Solano County assistant assessor-recorder, said in a statement released by the administration. New construction was pointed to as one of the primary factors in that growth. “The residential real estate market showed persistent growth over See Property, Page A8

FAIRFIELD — The city recently expanded its reach to community residents by adding a lower power radio station to share timely information during emergencies such as power outages, wildfires and other disasters. The 10-watt station, currently operating at three watts until full clearance from the FCC, can be heard at 1670 AM. It will have a range of five to seven miles once fully powered and can be heard on battery-powered radios, wind-up radios or from the car – if the power is out in the city. It went on the air June 17.

setts-based Agenus said in a press release. “The city is willing to work with us as partners. We will certainly expand our antibody manufacturing facilities. We will also have a manufacturing campus and process development, and we can also put our plant-derived product expansion there as well,” Armen added. “We have a total of 120 acres of
land, and the city wanted us to be the new owner, instead of companies looking to build shopping centers or retail, since we are adding value to the area, and adding skilled jobs to the area.” Armen said the company has had operations in Berkeley, but has since moved down to Emeryville. VACAVILLE — The city, long a hopeful to become a national biotech hub, has landed another major company, Agenus, that will take up a 120-acre parcel of land next to Genentech near Interstate 505. Agenus is a biotechnology company focused immunotherapy, on including immuno-oncol-

FAIRFIELD — Lisa Monroy was taking her granddaughter around the neighborhood for Halloween last fall when a speeding car nearly hit them as they started to cross the street. “They were going so fast, I had to grab her and pull her onto the sidewalk and we barely made it,” Monroy said. She said one of her neighbors, who has a cyclone fence around her yard, is still reluctant to let her grandchildren play in the yard because of the fear of a speeding vehicle smashing through the fence.
