FAIRFIELD — The Solano County Board of Supervisors approved a record $1.26 billion budget Thursday for the 2021-22 fiscal year. The general fund is $325.61 million, an 8.7% increase over the 2020-21 adopted budget. The overall budget is up 5.2%. Part of the general fund budget is an increase from $5,000 to $10,000 that each of the supervisors will have to give to community organizations and causes. add it iona l T he $25,000 requested by
Supervisor Erin Hannigan will come from funds that were going to be placed in a retirement pension plan reserve. The budget does not yet include the $86.9 million in American Rescue Plan funding the county is getting from the federal government. “It will be brought back to the board in a number of ways . . . and will be included in the budget then,” said Ian Goldberg, the county budget officer. County to explore moving Family Justice Center out of DA’s Office Todd R. Hansen

FAIR F IELD — Solano County Supervisor Jim Spering called “disturbing” the recent 2020-21 civil grand jury report on the Family Justice Center. Spering, during the budget hearing Thursday, asked that the $721,000 in general fund contributions to the center be separated and managed in part by County Administrator Birgitta Corsello. It is not fiscal mis-
management that has raised Spering’s concerns, but rather the grand jury report’s conclusion that the center “is not meeting” its mission, and that the Board of Supervisors should initiate a study to determine if the center should be transferred from the District Attorney’s Office to the Department of Health and Social Services. “We have all read the grand jury report and have received letters of concern,” Spering said See County, Page A9

FAIRFIELD — Five generations gathered Tuesday to mark the 102nd birthday of Fairfield resident Marie Florence (Freitas) Brown. Brown entered the world June 21, 1919, in Turlock. She had two brothers and two sisters, who all died before reaching the century mark. Known for a ready smile and gentle disposition, Brown did break one rule on her birthday. She credits her longevity to no liquor and no smoking and very little sugar. She enjoyed a piece of cake at her celebration with about a dozen in attendance. Brown marked her 100th See Birthday, Page A9
