FAIRFIELD — Solano County Public Health reported Tuesday that 52% of all residents 12 or older have been fully vaccinated against Covid-19, and 64% have received at least one shot. That represents 194,264 residents who are fully vaccinated, the county reported. Fairfield Councilwoman Pam Bertani, who admitted having reservations about the vaccines because they did not go through the usual Food & Drug Administration reviews, said she received her first shot on Tuesday and urged anyone who had not received one to get vaccinated. “If you don’t have a vaccination by now, it’s too dangerous with all the variants out there,” Bertani said during the council member comment period of Tuesday’s City Council meeting.
Vaccination site set to open at Solano Town Center Daily Republic Staff FAIRFIELD — Solano County Public Health is offering a first dose vaccination clinic for those 12 or older from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Solano Town Center. The clinic takes place near the former Forever 21 storefront, near Icing and Pandora, at 1350 Travis Blvd. and offers a PfizerBioNTech vaccine. Fairfield council back to work in its own chamber

FAIRFIELD — The City Council is governing from its own chamber, again. The council on Tuesday held a ribbon-cutting ceremony to dedicate the $1.8 million council chamber renovation prior to its regularly scheduled meeting. The chamber includes a dais for the seven-member council, a change that took place after plans for the renovation had already started. The project also included technical upgrades. Several council members commented on how nice it was to see people back in the chamber. “It looks great seeing every-
one out there,” Vice Mayor Rick Vaccaro said. “Today, we were officially out of the house,” Councilman Chuck Timm said. Kam Holzendorf, a frequent commenter before the council and a former candidate for the panel, congratulated the council and the city for guiding Fairfield through the worst of the pandemic. “Fairfield is coming back in a big way,” he said. But Holzendorf also urged the city to do something about the trash build-up around town, which he said was leading to fire problems. He suggested more garbage cans be placed in common areas. The last meeting held in the chamber occurred Feb. 18, 2020.
The meeting Tuesday was the first in-person gathering since Nov. 17, and that was in the boardroom of the Fairfield-Suisun School District. Fairfield Poet Laureate Bonnie DiMichele recited a poem for the occasion. The council business included the appointment and oaths of office for new members to the Planning Commission, Rockville Hills Regional Park Citizen Advisory Committee and to the Youth Commission. The appointments are made by Mayor Harry Price and confirmed by the council. Shawn Smith and Tina Werblin See Council, Page A8
5 things to watch for in Biden’s meeting with Putin Tribune Content Agency WASHINGTON — When President Joe Biden has his first head-of-state sit-down with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, it will be a test of mettle and wills, each leader confident in his ability to hold the upper hand over the other. Both have been fixtures in global politics for years, but the relationship between their two countries is at possibly its lowest point since the end of the Cold War. Biden is not planning
a “reset” of relations, which his advisers have described as a trap previous U.S. presidents fell into. Few analysts expect concrete agreements to emerge from Wednesday’s summit, but that alone may not be a measure of success or failure. “We should decide where it’s in our mutual interest, in the interest of the world, to cooperate, and see if we can do that,” Biden said Monday of how he would approach the meeting with Putin. “And the areas where we
An un-Trump summit In contrast to former P resident Dona ld Trump’s meetings with Putin, Biden is following normal protocol and will be accompanied in closeddoor meetings by his secretary of state, Antony J. Blinken, and a translator. Putin will have in tow his longtime foreign min-
