‘Small and mighty’ Vacaville Christian graduates dedicated class

VACAVILLE — Vacaville Christian High School seniors walked one by one through a line of board members and teachers Thursday to the familiar sounds of Pomp and Circumstance. In robes of white and dark blue, it didn’t take them long to reach their seats on the football field with a class that numbered just over 30. “It’s the smallest graduating class we’ve had in recent memory, for various reasons,” Principal Joseph Rowland said prior to the ceremony, “but they have been considered small and mighty by our staff and their colleagues.”
The beauty of having a small class, many said, was being able to know each other by name. All of their pictures also fit nicely in the commencement program, though a few seniors watched online at home. The school size and rigorous Covid-19 protocol allowed the school to keep its doors open. The vast majority of the graduating class attended live all year with just a few opting for home learning to have extra safety. The school even held a wide range of senior events, from prom on a yacht in the San Francisco Bay to athletics, Senior Sunrise and various other activities. Rowland even talked about that prom yacht pulling into McCovey
Cove in San Francisco with the students yelling “Beat L.A.” as the Giants baseball team was playing the Dodgers at nearby Oracle Park. “I’ll remember the grit of this class,” said Ben Davis, head of schools at Vacaville Christian, “and the way they came together as a class. It really brought them together during a challenging time and that is very unique.” With family nearby in the grandstands, the VCS Radio Symphony played the seniors to their seats. There were performances by the VCS Jazz Ensemble and the VCS Chorus and Chapel Leadership as well. Prayer and Bible See Small, Page A9
FBI investigating US Postmaster DeJoy over campaign donations Tribune Content Agency WASHINGTON — U.S. Postmaster General Louis DeJoy is under investigation by the FBI over campaign contributions made by his employees before he took the federal job last year, his spokesman said. DeJoy, a donor to former President Donald Trump, “has always been scrupulous in his adherence to the campaign contribution laws and has never know-
ingly violated them,” the spokesman, Mark Corallo, said in an email. The probe was earlier reported by The Washington Post. The Post reported in September that while DeJoy led New Breed Logistics Inc. from 2000 to 2014, he allegedly pressured employees to donate to Republican candidates to help him grow his profile as a GOP fundraiser, and used company bonuses to reimburse See DeJoy, Page A9

DIXON — The lockdown Thursday at Dixon High School was lifted about 11:20 a.m., nearly three hours after the incident began 25 miles away when a Stolen Vehicle Task Force unit started an enforcement stop. It ended with an arrest of one woman, who was a passenger in the car, and who was later booked on separate narcotics allegations, Solano County sheriff’s Lt. Jackson Harris said. Her name, age and city of residence was withheld due to the ongoing investigation and search for the driver, who has been identified, but his name is also being with-

held, Harris said. Harris said neither person is from Solano County, and likely was unfamiliar with the area. The unmarked task force unit called on Rio Vista police, a Sheriff’s Office force at this time, to effect the stop at about 8:45 a.m. on westbound Highway 12. Instead, Harris said, the target vehicle sped up to evade the law enforcement units. At one point, the car began using the shoulder to pass cars on the highway, and was traveling west on eastbound lanes near Summerset Road when the pursuit was called off for safety reasons.
