FAIRFIELD — Fourteen applicants for what is now up to four cannabis retail permits will be interviewed by the City Council during special meetings set for Wednesday and Thursday. The virtual meetings on both days are scheduled to start at 5 p.m. City Council members decided Tuesday to increase the number of permits from two to as many as four. That number could be adjusted at any time in the future. It also chose to consider applicant qualifications without a formal ranking system. However, the decision will be based on criteria that include looking at their business plans, labor and enterprise plans, neighborhood capability, safety, security, location and community relations. The applicants scheduled Wednesday to give

Short-term vacation rentals have been a controversial issue in the county, though some wonder how effective a moratorium will be when so many property owners are already operating them without the required permits. “After considering the (Department of Resource Management’s) status report and the public’s comments, the board directed staff to explore options for improving the county’s operational standards for vacation house rentals and to return with

Hundreds from the Armenian community sing the Armenian national anthem while celebrating President Biden’s decision to formally recognize the Armenian genocide of 1915 in front of the Turkish Consulate in Beverly Hills, Saturday.
WASHINGTON — President Joe Biden on Saturday formally recognized as a genocide the killing of more than 1 million Armenians starting in 1915, a label long used by historians but resisted by U.S. presidents to avoid angering Turkey, an important ally. The decision is a victory for Armenian diaspora communities, notably in Southern California, that have spent decades fighting for such recognition only to be repeatedly

A TRADITION OF TRUST & SELLING “PEACE OF MIND”
SUISUN VALLEY — Guests at the American Armory Museum’s Military Vehicle Demonstration Day and Car Show got a peek Saturday at new and future exhibits as well as a crushing display of power. Still under construction is a tunnel where guests will enter and view items that include an Arabic policeman’s vest and a scene from the 2019 death of Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi. Geoff Lippman, the museum’s general manager, is looking to create a room that honors those who served in the Gulf War in Iraq, and he plans a new K-9 exhibit to honor those dogs who have seen battle. It will buoy Armenia as well, with the announcement coming months after the nation lost territory to its neighbor Azerbaijan in a bloody conflict over a disputed border region. “Each year on this day, we remember the lives of all those who died in the Ottoman-era Armenian genocide and recommit ourselves to preventing such an atrocity from ever again occurring,” Biden said.
