FAIRFIELD — Two weeks after denouncing the recent hate and violence directed at Americans of Asian and Pacific Islander heritages, the City Council on Tuesday broadened its condemnation of prejudice and discrimination “against all people, regardless of race, ethnicity, religion, national origin, background, gender or sexual orientation.” The council members took the opportunity to remark on the importance of the Derek Chauvin

Cahill thanked the jurors, who each confirmed their votes as correctly read. “I want to thank you for not only jury service, but heavy duty jury service,” the judge said. He asked the attorneys to file written arguments regarding aggravated sentencing factors

Attorney General Keith Ellison, whose office oversaw Chauvin’s prosecution, saluted the “bouquet of humanity” who attempted to intervene and recorded Floyd’s final moments. “They didn’t know George Floyd, they didn’t know he had a beautiful family, they didn’t know that he was a proud father or had people in his life who loved him,” Ellison said to reporters as members of his

MINNEAPOLIS — Jurors convicted former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin on Tuesday of all the counts filed against him – seconddegree unintentional murder, third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter – in the killing George Floyd, who died after being pinned under Chauvin’s knee for more than nine minutes last May. Chauvin looked stern and glanced around the courtroom as the verdicts were removed from an envelope and read by Judge Peter Cahill. FAIRFIELD — Solano County is on another “roller coaster” ride when it comes to its coronavirus daily case watch. The Public Health Division reported Tuesday 20 confirmed cases, a sharp decline from recent daily reports that had been as high as 71 on Friday. The new cases took the county total to 32,047, the county reported. The one thing Dr. Bela Matyas knows is that Solano County is not moving out of its red-tier status. Matyas, the county public health officer, noted that for the week of April 3-9, the state reported a daily case average of 32.85, while the seven-day positivity testing rate was at 2.6% and the health equity rate was at 2.7%. The next week’s numbers will be much higher. The orange tier case threshold is 27 per day. Both the seven-day and equity rates are in the orange tier range, but the equity rate would have to drop below the yellow tier threshold of 2% to move Solano County into orange. “And with that, we are not at risk of moving anywhere,” Matyas said. Solano County is the only Bay Area county to remain in the red tier. All others are in the orange tier, as is neighboring Yolo County. About 170,000 Solano County residents 16 or older – 49.3% of that population – have received one dose of vaccine, while 108,000 – 31% – have been fully vaccinated. The seven-day testing positivity rate for Tuesday remained at 6.6%, largely due to the low number of tests reported, Matyas said. Hospitalizations went up to 28 with
