Fauci: Nation unlikely to ‘just cancel’ J&J Covid-19 shots

The two-story “Faces of Fairfield” mural, painted in 2005, is shown on the side of the former Pepperbelly’s Comedy Club at the corner of Texas and Jackson streets after the interior of the club was gutted by a five-alarm fire, Friday, Jan. 25, 2013. The site, including the mural, was cleared in the spring of 2017. The “Faces of Fairfield” mural was created by Benicia artist Lee

Wilder-Snider. It was the first major work commissioned by the Fairfield Mural Project and funded by local arts and civic groups. It was followed two years later by a 20-foot-high mural on the side of the former Bugambilias on Texas Street, facing Webster Street, “The Beauty of Solano County,” created by artist Cathy McClelland. That mural still exists.

FAIRFIELD — The City Council on Tuesday will consider an Art in Public Spaces pilot project for the Heart of Fairfield program. The plan encourages the expansion of “public art through the Heart of Fairfield in order to highlight the city’s rich history and unique businesses,” a staff report to the council states. It outlines 16 strategies and incorporates four of these points: ■  Work with property

owners and the Fairfield Main Street Association to identify key areas/ locations in front of the landmark buildings and at interactions where art created by local artists can be showcased. ■  Integrate public art, landscape elements and seating to soften and enliven the underutilized plaza space at the Fairfield community theater. ■  Further enhance the median islands along Madison Street with additional sculptural element and other opportunities for art installations.

FAIRFIELD — The City Council on Tuesday will consider increasing the number of retail cannabis permits it will issue, from two to as many as six. As part of the April 6 discussion on rebooting the evaluation procedures for awarding the permits, the "City Council provided further direction to staff to return with (a resolution) to allow an increase in the number of retailer permits to issue," the staff report to the See Pot, Page A7

■  Incorporate wall elements that enliven street facades. Staff recommends that a mural serve as the pilot project for the plan. Advantages of murals include that they are common for public art and are “shovel-ready,” they can be installed in a relatively short amount of time across a multitude of surfaces, they are naturally conspicuous and attract attention to the area; overall costs can adjust to the budget based on the desired quality of the end product, and

the mural artist can involve volunteers from the community – emerging artists, young adults and youth – to help paint and complete the project, according to the staff report. City staff identified four priorities for such a mural: ■  The mural must represent a theme tied to the culture, history and/ or people of Fairfield. ■  The artist must have local connections to Solano County in their
