Suisun council to consider pay cuts to city treasurer, city clerk Amy Maginnis-Honey

SIUSIN CITY — A proposal Tuesday before the City Council will keep the mayor’s and council members’ salaries at more than $7,800 annually. Vacaville and Vallejo are the only Solano County cities that pay their mayor and council more, according to the staff report to the City Council. Vallejo also provides a $1,900 monthly allowance to its mayor. No other cities offer that, according to the staff report. The state code provides for a base salary of a maximum of $300 monthly for cities with Suisun City’s population. An addendum permits an additional 5% of pay for each calendar year. The council increased its salary in 2007 to $654.86 monthly and set a vehicle allowance by resolution, the staff report states. No changes to elected officials’ sal-

aries have been made since that time, the staff report notes. Any changes in council salaries must be made by ordinance or ordinance amendment, the city staff reports. The council may adjust the salaries of the city clerk and the city treasurer by ordinance and have chosen to do so. “During the election season last year, elected official pay and benefits came up as a recurring discussion point and staff was directed to bring this topic back after

FAIRFIELD — The City Council will discuss the possibility Tuesday of a pay raise for themselves – the first in 32 years. “City Council member salaries have not increased since 1988 when the current $500 per month salary was adopted,” a staff report to the council states. “In addition, the mayor’s salary has not increased since 1988 with the current $600 per month.” The council is given three options to consider. n Increase salary from $500 per month to $600 per month based on population. The option follows state code. n Increase salary from $500 per month to $600 per month, with a 5% annual increase

FAIRFIELD — A proposed $3.3 billion bond that proponents argue will “accelerate California’s economic recovery and build a healthier, more equitable and resilient food and farm system,” cleared the Assembly Agriculture Committee Thursday. Assembly Bill 125 – the Equitable Economic Recovery, Healthy Food Access, Climate Resilient Farms and Worker Protection Bond Act – cleared the committee on a 10-0 vote. “Covid-19 has exposed many vulnerabilities and inequalities in our state’s food supply chain and infrastructure, and AB 125 will get at the heart of these issues,” bill author

for each calendar year dating back to 1989. This increase would equate to $1,300 per month. n Increase salary by 2.5% over 32 years, increasing salary from $500 per month to $900 per month. “Staff estimates an annual increase in General Fund cost of $8,500 for Option 1, an increase of $70,000 for Option 2, and an increase of $35,000 for Option 3,” the staff report states. City Council members receive compensation not only for their service on the council, but also for their service on the Fairfield-Suisun Sewer District’s governing board. Council members from both cities comprise the district’s governing board.

Tribune Content Agency LONDON — The coffin of Britain’s Prince Philip was interred in the royal vault of St George’s Chapel in Windsor at the end of a funeral service that featured just 30 mourners on Saturday. Queen Elizabeth II, his wife of 73 years, was forced to sit alone during the service due to the strict coronavirus regulations in place in England. The prince, who was also known as the duke of Edinburgh, was laid to

rest just over a week after he died at age 99. The queen’s expression was not captured by the television cameras during the service. However, photographers who were permitted to take pictures prior to the start captured the queen, dressed in all black, sitting in her own in a pew and gazing at her husband’s coffin. Assemblyman Robert Rivas, D-Hollister, said in a statement released by the California Climate and Agriculture Network, one of 15 sponsors. The bill would go before voters in the fall of 2022 if it clears the Legislature. Two animal rights organizations spoke in opposition to the legislation. The bond would provide $60 million “for grants to develop meat processing facilities and expand or upgrade meat processing facilities to increase meat processing capacity . . .,” the bill language states. “It is time for a better food system in our state – one that is more resilient, more sustainable, and more just,” Rivas said in the
