Solano board hears how alcohol sold online finds way into hands of youth Todd R. Hansen

FAIRFIELD — It is not particularly surprising that retail and online alcohol sales have increased during the Covid-19 pandemic. After all, bars, breweries, distilleries, wineries and restaurants have been closed to the public for much of that time. However, the Solano County Board of Supervisors were told this week that along with an increase in sales and home deliveries of alcohol, state Alcoholic Beverage Control enforcement teams have found that a fair amount of that alcohol is getting delivered right into the hands of underage drinkers.

The ABC reports that while regulation compliance rates are improving, decoy operations involving the home delivery of alcohol resulted in 229 citations being issues from April 2020 to January. “ABC has conducted multiple delivery decoy operations . . . The latest operation saw an 83% compliance rate but still showed a 17% violation rate,” an ABC spokesman noted in an email response to the Daily Republic. Here are the results of those operations: n Decoy Delivery Operation, April 24, 2020: 30 out of 38 drivers delivered alcohol to See Youth, Page A10

Veterans along with their spouses and caregivers wait in line to receive the Johnson & Johnson Covid-19 vaccine

SAN JOSE — Nearly half of Californians 18 and older have received at least one Covid-19 vaccine shot, an encouraging metric as some experts watch with concern spiking case rates in Michigan, New Jersey and elsewhere in the country. So far, 46.8% of adults in California have received at least one vaccine shot, and 25.5% have been fully vac-

cinated, according to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Among residents 65 and older, 81.5% have received at least one shot, and 57.4% are fully vaccinated. The state has now administered 22 million doses, about 80% of those delivered to California, and is averaging 371,510 daily injections, an 11% increase from a See Half, Page A10

About 200 people came out Saturday to get their single-dose vaccine against the novel coronavirus that causes Covid-19.

FAIRFIELD — It was a short wait for a shot in the arm for veterans Saturday morning as the first Fairfield Veterans Covid vaccine clinic saw about 200 people, including veterans’ spouses and caregivers. “We have done many clinics since the vaccines came out but this is a first community clinic outside of our other clinics in Fairfield,” said U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Primary Care Supervisor Arlicia Allen. They hope to reach as many people as possible, especially veterans and their families. The staff were all volunteers from various Veterans Affairs clinics from across California. They had 200 people call for appointments but they also had extra vaccines for walk-ins. “It is a lot of fun seeing the

veterans outside of the clinics and getting them what they need without hassle,” Allen said. The vaccine was from Johnson & Johnson, so it was a one-time shot. “They don’t have to worry about coming back,” she said. “Today is it.” The clinicians went over potential side effects, which were few but did include a sore arm and possible fatigue.
