FAIRFIELD — Two transportation projects totaling $8 million and two park projects top the list of priorities Solano County will submit for federal Community Project Funding. The list will go to Rep. John Garamendi, D-Walnut Grove, and Rep. Mike Thompson, D-St. Helena, to be included among the 10 projects each can request for the earmark dollars. The first transportation project is for the Highway 37 and Fairgrounds Drive interchange project, which is viewed as critical for the Solano360 project
as well as a general economic benefit to that part of Vallejo. The second is for the Vaca Valley Parkway and Interstate 505 Multimodal Improvement Project. The county is also requesting $867,648 for improvements at Lake Solano, in part due to the damage from the LNU Lightning Complex Fire. There was no dollar amount attached to the other park project, which is to complete trail access for people with disabilities at the Patwino Worrtla Kodoi Dihi Open Space Park, formerly known as Rockville Trails Preserve. FAIRFIELD — Solano County Supervisor Monica Brown on Tuesday wanted to know why housing for the homeless was not a priority for new federal earmark funding. Brown noted that the board hears all the time about the need, but never seems to be doing anything to meet that need. “There is nothing here for housing our homeless,” Brown said during the discussion on setting priorities for the federal Community
Project Funding. The program, brought back this year in the House of Representatives, gives lawmakers the power to direct spending to their districts to pay for special projects or programs. It had been banned since 2011. Brown was told that the county is not in the housing development business, and has no specific project to put up for the funding.
