FAIRFIELD — Solano County supervisors voted unanimously Tuesday to send a letter to Fairfield indicating they believe the proposed 288-unit Georgetown Village affordable housing project is not in the best interest of Travis Air Force Base – and therefore not in the best interest of the county or the city. The vote came after the board heard more than a dozen speakers urging the county to take steps to work with Fairfield and property owner Hunt Communities to
make the project viable. T hose speakers described the project as a “no-brainer,” a redevelopment of existing housing that would provide two-, three- and four-bedroom affordable homes to veterans and residents in great need. Some of those speakers were veterans who told their stories of being on the streets or in subpar housing. Others talked about how housing is the first step in getting many of these residents back on their feet and making them See Letter, Page A9

FAIRFIELD — Solano County was just hours into learning it would move to the red tier Wednesday when health officials Tuesday indicated it could be going orange in one or two weeks. The trigger for that to happen is when the state completes vaccinating 2 million of the 8 million residents identified in some of the poorest communities. State officials indicated late last week that it expected to reach that point in two weeks. “That’s why I’m projecting one to two weeks from now,” Dr. Bela Matyas said in a phone interview. The change in the state’s novel coronavirus thresholds all but doubles the case rate needed to move from one tier to another. For Solano County, that means instead of having a daily case rate average of fewer than 18 for a two-week period, it would only have to be below 36 cases per day to get into the orange tier. “And the county is already there,” Matyas said, noting the state’s adjusted case rate for the county, which also takes in testing volumes. The shift to the red tier went into effect Wednesday, though it was announced
