Senate OKs $1.9T virus relief bill Tribune Content Agency WASHINGTON — The Senate passed a $1.9 trillion Covid-19 relief package Saturday, scaling back unemployment benefits approved by the House and narrowing the number of Americans who receive $1,400 payments in an effort to mollify centrist Democrats and get a bill to President Joe Biden as early as next week. After some surprise last-minute haggling Friday between moderates and progressives, Senate Democrats passed the landmark bill Saturday morning by a vote of 50 to 49, with all Democrats voting in favor and all Republicans opposed. Republican Sen. Dan Sullivan, R-Alaska, was absent due to a death in the family. The measure next moves back to the House, which is expected to approve the Senate changes and send the bill to the president before March 14, when some current unemployment benefits are set to expire. The sweeping package could be the last

A slumber party to celebrate Delaney DePue’s 15th birthday last summer marked a new chapter – one defined by illness and uncertainty. The teen from Fort Walton Beach, Florida, tested positive for Covid-19 about a week later, said her mother, Sara, leaving DEPUE her bedridden with flulike symptoms. Her expected recovery, however, never came. Delaney – who used to train 20 hours a week for competitive dance and had no diagnosed underlying conditions – now

FAIRFIELD — While the Covid-19 pandemic has been devastating to many local businesses, one Fairfield restaurant used the shutdown as an opportunity to launch a new venture. La Costa Azul Food and Beverage Company was created in the early months of the pandemic to market and distribute a kind of Bloody Mary-styled mix for beer. “The mix is made out of a tomato base, but it has a lot of lime and Mexican spices,” said Marcoantonio Rodri-

FAIRFIELD — Solano County supervisors will consider what staff called “significant variances between their working budget and their projection,” when they review the midyear report at Tuesday’s virtual meeting. “The current projected general fund ending balance for
June 30, 2021 . . . is projected to be $36.1 million,” the staff report to the board states. “The projection includes $12 million in unspent general fund contingencies, and a net change of $24.1 million in additional fund balance based on midyear projections.” The net changes include increased revenues of $12.1 million, the majority of which was due to a court decision that changed how counties
allocate pass-through revenues and residual taxes. There was $12 million in decreased expenditures as well, a staff report to the board states. Board members also will consider $1.97 million in fixed asset requests, including $960,000 by the Sheriff’s Office for multiband portable radios and $29,000 for computer servers. The board meets at 9 a.m. A closed session follows the
public session, during which the board will be updated on labor negotiations. The public can access the meeting in several ways. Also on the board agenda is a status update on the 2020 Census redistricting, as well as a discussion on a proposal to rehabilitate
