FAIRFIELD — Elections often bring changes, and 2020 brought ballots full – including a new president of the United States. Closer to home, Fairfield, Vacaville and Vallejo all went to district-based representation, which means their city councils grew from five members to seven. Three new mayors were seated, and the voters’ choice for one of two Suisun City council seats was decided by the narrowest of margins. Mike Hudson returns to the Suisun City council after claiming the second of two available seats with a five-vote win over former police chief Thomas Alder. As close as that race was, equally as dominant was the victory for the other seat by first-time Councilwoman Alma Hernandez, who cleared Hudson’s vote count by See Elections, Page A8

FAIRFIELD — Family and friends of individuals who have been shot and killed by Vallejo police officers frequently demonstrated in front of the Solano County Government Center in 2020 – calling on District Attorney Krishna Abrams to do more. By more, they meant, for her to take action against the police officers who were involved in the shootings. On one occasion, the group peacefully marched up to the District Attorney’s Office on the fourth floor of the government building. They demanded to see her, but Abrams was not there that day. It was the same chorus of protest heard across the country as activists for ending social injustice hit the streets – sometimes with violent results. At the center of the demonstrations were the deaths See Streets, Page A8
