from 9,000 to 10,000; seven days to go from 10,000 to 11,000; and six day to move from 11,000 to 12,000. Cases totals have increased by more than 1,400 in the seven-day span that ended Thursday. The county has recorded a combined 583 new cases in two days – Wednesday and Thursday. The number of active cases surged Thursday by 315 to 1,553. Hospitalizations also increased Thursday

FAIRFIELD — Dr. Bela Matyas told Solano County supervisors this week that he would – with their approval – issue a prohibition on private gatherings modeled after the state’s stateat-home order. The local order would come ahead of what appears to be an inevitable order from the state anyway, but Matyas was interested in what the board might have to say. “The reason for that is I can Matyas justify that (order),” Matyas said in a phone interview Wednesday, the day after the board meeting. “(Private gatherings) is the venue where the disease is transmitting . . . and (issuing the order) is not inconsistent with the harm reduction message we have been sending for months.” The county reported five more deaths Tuesday linked at least in part to Covid-19, all community-transmitted and linked to Thanksgiving activities. Matyas said he had three more cases to review Wednesday. One more death was added to the county’s total Thursday. The county message will continue with a new “Mask Up Solano” video campaign, using area officials to express why they wear masks and why others should as well. Suisun City Vice Mayor Wanda Williams is also pushing a “Yellow Mask” campaign that officials can wear to emphasize the importance of face coverings. Matyas, the county public health officer, said he did not expect the supervisors would necessarily respond, though Supervisor Jim Spering said he would likely defy the order anyway, noting specifically family gatherings, but also using appropriate safety measures such as masks and social distancing at those events. “I think the message I received was

FAIRFIELD — Solano County’s number of confirmed Covid-19 cases exploded Thursday with 410 new cases reported by Solano Public Health. The county also reported one more death attributed at least in part to the disease. That brings the county’s total to 91. There are now 12,533 confirmed cases countywide. The jump in cases

Thursday continues a trend that has seen the county add approximately 1,000 cases per week with a lesser number of days between each 1,000case milestone. Solano County reached 8,000 cases Nov. 6. The case total crossed the 9,000 mark Nov. 17, the 10,000 mark Nov. 26, the 11,000 mark Dec. 3 and the 12,000 mark Wednesday. It took 11 days to go from 8,000 to 9,000 confirmed cases; nine days to go

FAIRFIELD — A study released Thursday by WalletHub shows California with the 10th biggest jump in weekly unemployment claims. Much of the state is on some form of lockdown with many businesses closed and others operating at minimal capacity. New unemployment claims

increased week-over-week Nov. 30, up 19% from the previous week. To identify which states’ workforces are experiencing the biggest increases in unemployment claims due to Covid-19, WalletHub compared the 50 states and the District of Columbia across three metrics. For the week of Nov. 30, more than 177,837 people filed for unemployment. The figure was 48,434 in 2019. The numbers reflect a 384.31%

change in unemployment claims for the week vs. the start of the year. More than 36,700 people put in claims the week of Jan. 1. The study also included the following questions and answers. How will the distribution of a Covid-19 vaccine impact unemployment? “Once we achieve widespread distribution of a Covid-19 vaccine, people See Claims, Page A8

6 GOP-led states join Texas bid to overturn Biden’s election Tribune Content Agency WASHINGTON – Texas’ effort to overturn President-elect Joe Biden’s victory has prompted a legal war between the states, as Supreme Court filings poured in on Thursday. Six fellow Republican attorneys general asked the court to let them join Texas’ Ken Paxton in challenging the outcome in Pennsylvania, Georgia, Michigan and Wisconsin. Paxton and the others joined President Donald Trump at a private lunch in the Cabinet Room.

Trump has also asked to join Texas as a plaintiff in the effort to nullify 10.4 million votes in states he lost. Paxton filed the lawsuit late Monday and by Thursday afternoon, 21 states – including four led by Republican governors – had filed objections with the Supreme Court arguing that it would be unconstitutional, unfair and outrageous to disenfranchise tens of millions of voters who cast ballots under procedures they’d been told were perfectly valid. Texas’ allegation is that the governors or courts in the four states

at issue had unlawfully expanded mail-in voting, usurping a power reserved solely for legislatures. Paxton, who co-chaired Lawyers for Trump for the president’s reelection campaign, asked the court to let the legislatures substitute their choice of electors for the 62 collected by Biden as a result of winning more votes in each of those states. Since Republicans control those four legislators, that would presumably turn Trump’s decisive ouster
