Organizers said there is a big need for rolls, pies and monetary donations, which can be dropped off through 3 p.m., Wednesday, at the Vacaville Veterans Memorial Building located at 549 Merchant St. The hours of operation are 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Also needed are afternoon volunteers to help in the kitchen and with clean up. Anyone wishing to volunteer should call 446-3582. Anyone needing meals can call 447-6354 or 446-3582 to set up meal delivery or curbside pick-up. There are no meals being served in the veterans hall this year. The menu includes turkey, ham, whipped potatoes and all the trimmings.

At 15.5%, Solano also experienced the highest seven-day positivity testing rate during the pandemic.
Hospitalizations are up two to 64, also a record.
The number of Covid-related deaths held at 81. Active cases increased from 778 to 855, another record high.
The number of completed tests was 123,011, an increase of 1,623 over Monday’s update.
The cases by cities had not been updated from Monday.
There will be a Covid update on Wednesday, but the county is closed on Thursday and Friday for the holiday. The next Covid-19 update after that will be on Monday.
Rotarians: Serve

Back Partnership and Vallejo Together identified families in need.
Seventeen Rotarians from the Solano Sunset Club began making the delivers on Friday.
Each delivery was a Covid-19 compliant no-contact delivery.
A $4,000 Rotary Foundation grant was provided through Rotary District 5160 to the club’s Rotary Pandemic Grocery Delivery Project.
The Rotary Club of Solano Sunset contributed an additional $2,000.
Rotary District grants fund projects that address needs in the local community. This was Rotary Club of Solano Sunset’s first district grant.

Benicia police officer tests positive for Covid-19

BEniCiA — The Benicia Police Department informed the city that it received a positive test result for Covid-19 on Sunday.
The officer began experiencing symptoms on nov. 12 and was tested.
The source of the infection has not yet been determined, but the department assisting the Solano County Public Health Division with contact tracing and following the county’s guidance.
The officer is self-quarantining at home.
Based on department policy and Health Department recommendations, interim Police Chief Mike Greene has determined that there was no direct exposure to the community prior to the officer’s diagnosis.
Close contact exposure is defined by the Centers for Disease Control as being within 6 feet of others for more than 15 minutes.
“Our staff members are directed to abide by county protocols to limit or prevent infection among themselves and with the public,” Greene said in a Facebook post.
“unfortunately, even with these precautions in place, the nature of our work still puts our staff at a risk for infection. We want to assure the community that we are taking all steps to keep everyone safe and healthy,” the chief stated.
The Benicia Police Department remains staffed and does not anticipate any disruption to service delivery.
Due to health privacy rights, the city is prohibited from providing any information about the identity of the affected officer without his or her permission.
Benicia facilitates testing for employees who may have been exposed.
Benicia residents are reminded to minimize mixing with people outside their home, wash their hands often, keep their distance and wear face coverings.
