Council OKs Pole Line project By Anne Ternus-Bellamy Enterprise staff writer
The public and press will be allowed to attend in person, but due to COVID, access and seating will continue to be limited, masks and social distancing will be required and meetings will continue to be livestreamed. Legislative staffers are being given more flexibility to work from home,
Construction may be just months away on 30 new for-sale homes that will fill a currently vacant site on Pole Line Road. The Davis City Council on Tuesday unanimously approved a proposal by developer Don Fouts to build 30 attached, single-family homes at 715 Pole Line, the former location of Sierra Health Care Center. The convalescent home was abandoned several years ago and later demolished. The 30 homes will sit on lots ranging in size from 1,517 square feet to 3,236 square feet on either side of a single road extending west from Pole Line. The location is across the street from the Rancho Yolo senior mobile home park, with an apartment complex to the south and single-family homes to the north and west. All of the homes will have at least three bedrooms and 2½ bathrooms and 24 of the 30 homes would have fully accessible bedrooms on the first floor. Each home will have a one-car garage and one parking spot on the driveway.

has long grappled with — including housing and climate change.
CalMatters Another coronavirus variant spreading like wildfire, and another huge state budget surplus: In some ways, 2022 is off to a similar start as 2021. That could carry over to the state Legislature’s new session that started Monday. In addition to the pandemic and surplus, California is dealing with some of the same big issues it
“Our challenges continue to be the challenges that we have started and built momentum to work towards,” Senate President Pro Tem Toni Atkins, a San Diego Democrat, told CalMatters. The difference? Looking at key issues more through a lens of equity, she said.
The state Assembly’s agenda shares those priorities, said Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon, D-Lakewood. Access to health care will be another focus: “We’re proud of where we are as a state, but we need to make sure that everybody in the state is covered.” Where will things look a little different? The state Capitol complex is undergoing renovations, which means the “Bacteria
Bear” is safely in storage for now.
HDT sets new testing schedule Schools work to ramp By Anne Ternus-Bellamy Enterprise staff writer Healthy Davis Together is implementing a new community COVID-19 testing schedule effective Sunday. Testing will still be available seven days a week, but locations will vary in terms of days and hours, options for walk-ins and types of testing. “The program and schedule changes reflect collective strategic decisions made in collaboration with the cities of Davis, West Sacramento and Woodland as well as the Yolo County Health and Human Services Agency to effectively allocate staff and resources and serve the needs of the community,” a press release from the city of Davis announced. The Research Park testing site in Davis as well as the Norton Hall site in Woodland will provide testing Sundays through Thursdays, while the Veterans Memorial Center in Davis and West Sacramento City Hall will offer testing

Tuesdays through Saturdays. Mobile testing units will be deployed later this month to offer free COVID-19 testing in Esparto and Winters. Both Davis testing locations, as well as Woodland’s and West Sacramento’s, will continue to provide testing by appointment or walk in, though appointments are recommended to minimize wait times. The sites will have different lines based on whether or not testers have appointments, symptoms or exposure to COVID-19. The UC Davis campus testing site at the ARC will continue to offer asymptomatic testing seven days a week by appointment. Other than the ARC location, all Healthy Davis Together testing sites will continue to offer saliva-based PCR testing for people with or without symptoms and exposure to COVID-19. At most

and students remains of paramount importance. “The governor announced early December there will be rapid antigen tests for every student and staff. Unfortunately, their shipment to Yolo County school districts got delayed,” Interim Superintendent, Matt Best, explained the distribution of around 10,000 tests throughout the district. “We got them late last week and got them in the hands of students as quickly as we could on Friday. We asked them to take a test on Friday, then another before they return
