IT’S TIME TO HONOR BOB FOR HIS 50+ YEARS AT THE DAVIS ENTERPRISE! The celebration will take place in three parts, including two activities and a scholarship fundraiser. We invite fans of Dunning's work to make a tax-deductible contribution to endow a scholarship in his name, to be awarded annually to a graduating senior from a DJUSD high school who is considering a career in journalism. Additionally, we invite the community to watch an online celebration on Friday, April 9th, where we will trace the highlights of Bob’s career. Locals are also invited to show Bob some love by participating in a socially distanced vehicle parade planned for Saturday, April 24th.
For details on each of these activities, visit www.smartzgraphics.com/bob-dunning-scholarship.

During the summer of 2018, the relationship between the city of Davis and UC Davis seemed to have reached a nadir, complete with threats of litigation. Earlier that year, both the city and Yolo County had called on UC Davis to help alleviate the region’s housing crisis by building more student housing on MAY campus. UC Davis Over the years, as chancellor university enrollment had increased and on-campus housing had not, more and more students were spilling into the city and even further into the county in search of housing, packing into single-family homes and exacerbating the housing shortage. In a resolution passed by the Yolo County Board of Supervisors, and in the city’s response to an environmental impact report prepared for the UC Davis Long Range Development Plan, UC Davis was urged to commit to housing more students. Davis officials wanted more density

Police discover alleged drug lab BY LAUREN KEENE Enterprise staff writer Police officers serving a search warrant at an East Davis apartment Thursday night stumbled upon a suspected drug lab, triggering evacuations and a hazardous-material investigation that lasted well into the day Friday. “This caught us by surprise,” Paul Doroshov, deputy chief of the Davis Police Department, said of the discovery at Creekside Apartments, 2990 Fifth St. That’s where members of the
police department’s communityoriented policing unit arrived at about 9:45 p.m. to serve the warrant, which Doroshov said involved a drug-trafficking investigation. Finding no one home, officers forced entry into the apartment.
being used to manufacture the hallucinogenic drug DMT, formally known as N,NDimethyltryptamine, though the state Department of Justice will perform further testing to confirm that suspicion, Doroshov noted.
“When they went in, they basically discovered what appeared to be a drug lab,” prompting the officers to retreat and seal the apartment in order to avoid exposure to caustic chemicals and fumes, Doroshov said.
Davis police summoned a drug lab investigation team from the Sacramento County Sheriff ’s Department to assist with further investigation and hazardous-materials cleanup.
Police believe the lab was
the complex parking lot, which was cordoned off with yellow crime-scene tape. A staff member on the property declined to comment on the incident. Police made no related arrests as of Saturday, but Doroshov said that is part of the ongoing investigation.

The Davis school board unanimously approved a plan Thursday to launch a hybrid learning model in district schools April 12 that will run for the remainder of the school year. The plan is contingent on COVID-19 conditions remaining stable and the continued availability of vaccine doses for education workers. As part of the approved motion, the board also approved on-campus “welcome back to school” activities starting on April 5, and directed staff to
take any and all steps needed to prepare for summer school and a full reopening of district schools in the fall, at the start of the 2021-22 school year. Only two of the district’s conditions for opening up hybrid learning haven’t yet been met, and both are projected by the district to be fulfilled in roughly the next month. The first unmet condition, that Yolo County remains in the red tier of California’s colorcoded, tier-based reopening system for two weeks,
