26 percent of Davis residents have been vaccinated By Anne Ternus-Bellamy Enterprise staff writer More than a quarter of Davis residents have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, according to the county’s health officer. Of the 18,380 city residents vaccinated through Wednesday, 11,607 live in the 95616 ZIP code; 254 in 95617; and 6,519 in 95618. Davis is doing better than the county as a whole, where 19 percent of residents have received at least one dose, according to Dr. Aimee Sisson, who provided an update Wednesday evening. “Residents of Davis are a little bit ahead of the curve,” Sisson said, “with 26 percent of Davis residents having received at least one dose of the vaccine. That is good progress to date, but obviously a lot more people to go to reach herd immunity.” Sisson said 38 percent of the 40,982 county residents who have been vaccinated so far received their doses via a multi-county healthcare system, led by Dignity Health which has vaccinated 7,793 county residents. In addition to vaccinating its own members, Dignity has also partnered with the county on multiple clinics

Tree tagged for removal after fatality By Lauren Keene Enterprise staff writer The city plans to cut down the Slide Hill Park tree that lost a major limb last week, causing fatal injuries to a Davis woman, officials announced Thursday. Jennifer Comey, 44, was struck and killed by the falling evergreen ash limb on the morning of Feb. 23 as she played at the East Davis park with her 3-year-old daughter. Following that incident, the city hired an independent arborist who examined the tree and called for its removal. “The recommendation was made out of an abundance of caution due to its proximity to a

play area and taking into account that a Davis resident lost her life when the limb fell on her while she was at the park,” city officials said in a news release. “The arborist is still evaluating other trees in the park to determine whether further pruning, removal or other modifications are needed.” According to Deputy Police Chief Paul Doroshov, the city’s spokesman on the Feb. 23 incident because it involved a death, the arborist opined that while the tree doesn’t pose an immediate threat, it could sometime down the road. “When a tree loses a major limb, it places more of a burden

Enterprise staff writer Saturday marks the one-year anniversary of the first case of COVID-19 reported in Yolo County — a 58-yearold Davis resident who would spend eight days in intensive care battling the virus before recovering. At a press conference held in Woodland that day — March 6, 2020 — the former county health officer, Dr. Ron Chapman, said it wasn’t yet evident how the patient had contracted the virus, but said, “there is growing evidence that coronavirus is already in our community and is spreading widely.”

According to AdvisorSmith, the nationwide average was a priceto-income ratio of 4.8, less than half that of the ratio in Davis. The study used housing price data from Zillow’s Home Value and Index and household income, composition and population data from the U.S. Census Bureau’s American Community Survey. The housing price data from Zillow was

Some wind gusts exceeded 40 mph on the morning Comey and her daughter Margaret visited the park, where the tree limb — which first responders estimated to be about 20 feet long and nine inches in diameter at its largest point — fell over the sandbox area. Emergency personnel performed CPR at the scene and revived Comey’s pulse, but she succumbed to her injuries at the UC Davis Medical Center. Comey became a Davis
