DUI task force in gear in EDC

Jana Rossi Staff writer El Dorado Hills Fire Station 85 hosted the first Placerville Regional Campaign Against Impaired Drivers Task Force meeting with sobering facts shared by CHP public information officer Andrew Brown and Ophelia Torpey from the CHP Research and Planning Section. A grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration will be used for programs to reduce traffic collisions related to impaired drivers. The 12-month grant program runs through September 2022. CHP Placerville officials say they plan to deploy officers on enhanced enforcement patrols, particularly on Highway 50, highways 49 and 193 and unincorporated roads within the CHP Placerville jurisdiction. Data gathered from 2017-19 ranks Placerville in the top 20 sites for DUI crash rates, with Highway 50 in the Placerville area taking the lead for most DUI crashes. Out of the 767.5 miles under the CHP Placerville area jurisdiction, there were 315 DUIinvolved crashes and 20 of those were fatalities. While factors such as unsafe speed and improper n
