20-hour standoff leads to arrest in Rescue Mountain Democrat staff A Cameron Park man who reportedly broke into a Rescue residence and took the homeowner’s firearms out of storage was arrested Saturday, Nov. 27, after a 20-hour standoff with El Dorado County sheriff ’s deputies. Austin Scott Lee A Pine Hill Road resident opened their front door the evening of Nov. 26 to find their guns scattered near the entryway and 26-year-old Austin Scott Lee watching TV, according to the El Dorado County Sheriff ’s Office. The resident exited the home and at about 8:55 p.m. reported the intruder to a 911 dispatcher, noting they thought they had heard a single gunshot. Sheriff ’s officials said a perimeter around the residence was set up and air resources helped gather intelligence while a loudspeaker was used in an attempt to communicate with Lee. The standoff lasted through the night and into the following afternoon. EDSO deployed robots to locate Lee, who was hiding inside the home. Chemical munitions finally forced the suspect to surrender, according to sheriff ’s officials. At 5 p.m. Lee was taken into custody. He faces charges of residential burglary, obstructing/ resisting arrest and shooting at an inhabited dwelling. His bail amount was not available as of press time.
