Sexual predator could be released in El Dorado County Eric Jaramishian Staff writer A convicted sexually violent predator could be released from a state hospital into El Dorado County and the District Attorney’s Office is calling on members of the community to have their voices heard on where he could be placed. Former El Dorado County resident David Bergey, 64, was convicted in 1993 of sex crimes involving two victims who were minors. A public meeting about his housing and

by Bergey after accepting a ride from him and was taken into a clearing. One of the girl’s mothers knew about her daughter’s relationship with Bergey, accusing him of being abusive and giving the girl drugs, according to the article. It was further reported Berger was living in a trailer on the property of one of the girl’s parents. Bergey reportedly had a prior 1989 conviction in Pennsylvania and served prison time for

article gives more insight on the crimes. Bergey pleaded no contest to oral copulation as well as lewd and lascivious acts with a girl younger than 15 years old, in exchange for the DA dropping two rape charges and an oral copulation charge during his trial. At the time, Bergey’s public defender told the court Bergey and the girl had been in a boyfriend-girlfriend relationship. Another girl, reported to be 16, told authorities she had been orally copulated

Save the Graves presented J&J Blair: A Family Affair at Placerville Union Cemetery Oct. 21, introducing guests to some of the county’s earliest influencers — the Blair brothers (James, John, Matthew and Robert) — and their descendants. Through lumber and agriculture businesses along with other enterprises, the Blair family has left an important mark on El Dorado County’s history … and continues to do so today. Save the Graves is a local nonprofit dedicated to the restoration, protection and celebration of pioneer cemeteries. Pictured is John Blair (Dan Trainor), the first Blair to arrive in El Dorado County in 1852. He established several lumberyards and mills and was known locally as the “genial Scotsman.”

Piper gets 15 years in child porn case Odin Rasco Staff writer A former Placerville resident charged with allegedly torturing and killing his son Roman Lopez in 2020 was sentenced Monday in federal court for sexual exploitation of a minor. Child porn charges were filed against Jordan Piper Jordan Piper, 38, in late June 2022 following a federal investigation. Piper initially entered a not-guilty plea to an amended complaint filed March 7 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of California, but later changed his plea to guilty and was convicted on the charges March 20 as part of a plea agreement. Piper was sentenced to 15 years in prison followed by seven-and-a-half years of supervised release, U.S. Attorney Phillip A. Talbert announced Monday. Piper was subject to an investigation by the El Dorado County Sheriff ’s Office and the Federal Bureau of Investigation after a collection of surreptitious recordings of a minor were discovered in his rented Placerville home. Court documents show Piper hid a camera in the wall of a bathroom and made around 30 secret recordings of a minor while living in Groveland, editing screenshots and video recordings focusing on the victim’s genitals and pubic area. The execution of a search warrant resulted in the discovery of approximately 433 nude images on Piper’s cell phone of the minor using the bathroom and bathing other children. While in court, it was revealed Piper sent texts to the minor between Dec. 16-24, 2019, asking her opinion on a sexual “Christmas gift.” Investigators say Piper sent pictures to the minor and offered to pay her $250 to use the “gift” on herself. The illicit recordings were uncovered while Placerville Police Department officers searched for evidence related to the discovery of 11-year-old Roman’s body in a storage bin in the basement

Burning? Beware A south county resident’s debris burn got out of control Tuesday, scorching about 1.8 acres of dry grass and vegetation before firefighters tamed the flames. Responding to the call off Shenandoah Road in River Pines area were crews from the Cal Fire Amador-El Dorado Unit and Amador and Pioneer fire protection districts. While cooler temperatures, higher humidity and recents rain led to lifting the suspension on burn permits Monday, property owners and residents are urged to use caution while conducting debris or agriculture burns.
