At 6:45 a.m. Aug. 12 Stonebriar resident Renee Dagsher was getting ready to welcome children into her home-based daycare when she answered a knock on her door and was informed her son Dominic had died. More than a month later, his mother, his younger sister and four older brothers still seek an explanation. ak Ridge High School community members have come together to help two of their very own. Classmates, teammates and friends of seniors Bryce McGehee and Bryce Bazor held a fundraiser in honor of Pediatric Cancer Awareness Month and to help their friends during their own cancer battles. Printed shirts with “#Bryce2Strong” and “Bold in Gold” sold out immediately for what was supposed to be a fundraiser football game on Sept. 3, Oak Ridge vs. Lincoln of Stockton. Proceeds from the shirt sales were split between the two families to help in the boys’ cancer fights. Although the home game didn’t take place, that didn’t dampen the town spirit. With the storm come fires Village Life staff While rain brought some relief to dry conditions, the Thursday night thunderstorm also brought lightning strike fires to El Dorado County. El Dorado Hills, Rescue and Cal Fire firefighters responded to a vegetation fire west of Kanaka Valley at about 10:40 p.m. Sept. 9 that turned into two small but potentially dangerous blazes. Dousing the Kanaka Fire near Kanaka Valley Road and Donkey Lane in

Rescue required five engine companies, two hand crews and a water tender — more than 50 personnel total. By Sunday the blaze was fully contained, scorching 10-12 acres total between the two fires. The fire did not pose a threat to homes but burned in heavy brush on steep terrain. Lightning strike fires also broke out in Garden Valley, Georgetown and Cool. All the ligntning fires were quickly contained.
