El Dorado Hills Community Services District General Manager Kevin Loewen was recently recognized as California Special District Association’s General Manager of the Year, an award that was followed up with a one-time merit pay increase of $13,458 by KEVIN LOEWEN the EDHCSD Board of Directors last Thursday evening. Loewen said he was shocked to receive the award, as the CSDA application was submitted without his knowledge. “I’m honored and humbled by all the kind acknowledgements related to achievements over the past year(s),” he said. “Now I feel like I need to work even harder and get more done.” During a June 10 closed session meeting the board reviewed Loewen’s performance and determined that an increase for up to $15,000 could be considered during an upcoming open session. Originally slated for a July 1 special meeting, the decision and timing was protested by community members and subsequently rescheduled to last week’s regular meeting. Resident Andy Nevis asked for a more comprehensive analysis behind the compensation. “If a bonus is to be given, there should be clear justification for how the bonus benefits not only the recipient but the taxpayers and residents of the district,” he wrote in an email to ■

Eric Jaramishian Staff writer Assemblyman Kevin Kiley has announced a bid for the office of governor in the election to recall Gov. Gavin Newsom. This announcement follows the publication of an open letter by Orrin Heatlie, lead proponent of the Newsom recall, asking 36-year-old Kiley to enter KEVIN KILEY the race. “I’ve said I’m ready to play whatever role will do the most to get our movement across the finish line,” Kiley said. “After hearing from tens of thousands of Californians, I’m convinced that role is to replace Gavin Newsom as governor.” Kiley, whose district includes the western end of El Dorado County, was first elected to the state Assembly in 2016. In his last reelection he received the most votes ■
