Woman in custody after attack Thomas Frey Staff writer Authorities arrested 30-year-old Cimone Isabel Fotuaika Wednesday night after multiple reports came in to the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office of a woman assaulting people with a deadly weapon and attempting a carjacking at

Walmart in Placerville. Sheriff ’s Sgt. Eric Palmberg said Fotuaika, who was armed with a knife, is a transient who recently moved to Placerville from Texas. When patrol units arrived on scene shortly after 5 p.m. and attempted to make contact with Fotuaika she reportedly fled to a house in the area of Forni Road.

Deputies attempted to negotiate a peaceful surrender for hours with Fotuaika finally taken into custody around 10 p.m. Roads into the area were shut down while law enforcement worked to diffuse the situation. Fotuaika is being held on $450,000 bail at the Placerville jail.

Opponents of mask mandates fill El Dorado County Board of Supervisors chambers Tuesday morning as a resolution supporting no masks in schools was approved. While mask policies in schools are decided at the state level the resolution sends a message that county residents and lawmakers want that decision to be made locally.

El Dorado County leaders intend to support residents opposing mask mandates and especially “no masks for kids” in school. Supervisors voted 4-1 to approve a resolution to that effect during their June 29 meeting. An El Dorado County judge has ordered a mandatory settlement conference in a lawsuit filed by the Georgetown Divide Recreation District over the location of an easement on Pilot Hill property where the Bayley House sits. Two of the defendants, Terry Wilson and Alex Byrd, represented by attorney Nabil Samaan, use the Bayley House’s entry road, which is off Highway 49 and on a parcel owned by GDRD, to get to their properties.
