IN EL DORADO HILLS

JUNE 30, 2021

Grass fires keep local firefighters busy Village Life staff A series of fires last week put many El Dorado Hills residents on high alert. The largest of the fires broke out at 3 p.m. June 21 near the intersection of Valley View Parkway and Blackstone Parkway, scorching 35 acres near the Blackstone housing development before crews had the flames fully contained. The fire burned right up to the fence line of several homes but no structures were damaged and no injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation. At around 7 a.m. Tuesday, June 22, crews responded to a small vegetation fire near the Blue Shield campus on Town Center Boulevard, possibly caused by a transformer failure. Nearby residents lost power for a while. About 12 hours later firefighters were extinguishing flames near Bass Lake after a delivery truck came into contact with a power line, sparking a grass fire. The blaze mostly scorched the grassy slope leading up to the lake’s dam. “This property recently conducted weed abatement (which) likely assisted our crews in keeping the fire contained to less than 1 acre,” fire officials noted. Those who have been out to Bass Lake in the past couple months may have noticed the herd of goats busily munching away on dry grass as part of the weed abatement effort on the property, which is owned by the El Dorado Hills Community Services District. All these fires followed a Father’s Day blaze that burned 7.5 acres in Serrano, as previously reported in Village Life.
