fter a twoyear hiatus the El Dorado County Fair is back and with it comes a new amusement ride — Freak Out. Riders dangle, rotate and are swung vertically, bringing an additional thrill for fair attendees in an already stacked four days of entertainment celebrating everything El Dorado County. “I was nervous at first but it was a great ride,” said Placerville resident Matt Scharffenberg, who brought his children to fair preview night Wednesday. “It is good to be back (at the fair) to come hang out and have the kids ride the rides.” Super Shot is also making an appearance as another of the fair’s wild rides, taking folks up 90 feet in the air before free falling in mere seconds. “That was probably my favorite ride but I don’t think I’ll do it again,” said Diamond Springs resident Skylar Waggoner. More kid friendly attractions are Dragon Wagon, Silver Streak, PLACE ADDRESS LABEL HERE
the Super Slide and of course a merrygo-round. Younger children can get their adventurous side on by experiencing Raiders, as they crawl, climb, dodge, squeeze and slide through a maze of obstacles. For those at preview night the fair’s opening isn’t just about a return of amusement rides and other fair attractions. It also means a return to a county tradition after COVID-19 basedrestrictions in 2020 and the Caldor Fire base camp in 2021 caused cancellation of the fair. The Magic is Back is the appropriately donned slogan for this year’s fair, which will be open to the public beginning at noon each day through Sunday, June 19. “After losing the fair for two years this is a huge comeback,” said Camino resident Dusty Botting. “The summer culture of El Dorado County includes the fair. To not have it was a huge loss for the kids and the community at large.” There’s something for everyone at this year’s fair, including n

T
he excitement is evident at the El Dorado County Fairgrounds livestock arenas as Future Farmers of America, Grange and 4-H youth are ready to show off their steers, hogs, lambs, goats, rabbits and more. This week has been on their mind every single day, waking up early and putting in extra time after school to feed and take care of their animals. The Junior Livestock Auction will occur Saturday at 10 a.m. inside the Vicini Pavilion. In a tradition unlike any other, FFA and 4-H participants will walk their animals into a show ring to be auctioned. Many awards have already been earned and will continue to roll in through the end of the weekend. Last year Joseph Martin was with Southside Topnotch
Ponderosa FFA participants Payge Goodfellow, left, with Buffalo her market goat and Paige Fletcher with her market lamb named Ray Ban have been busy this week as the Junior Livestock Auction nears. 4-H where his steer was a Reserve Champion. When he and his cow entered the show ring bidding just kept going up and it didn’t end until $6.25 per pound was called out by the auctioneer. His 1,350-pound steer sold for a total of $8,437. Now he is part
of Union Mine FFA, where he is preparing for his sophomore year and he is back at the fairgrounds with a 1,285-pound homegrown steer named John — the 2022 Reserve Champion. “I’m stoked. I think this year is gonna be a good year,” said Martin,
who added he will put the money he earns tomorrow into a savings account and an IRA account and eventually buy a car. With a Grange project, his sister Milena Martin, 10, is competing for the first time and her 1,315-pound homegrown steer she named Milo has already soaked up the award for Champion Market Steer and she said she is excited to begin saving up money from the fair. She noted her brother’s experience helped lead her on the path to raise Milo. “My favorite part is trying to find out all of their personalities and having them run around in the pen where they jump around,” Milena said. “It’s really fun to watch.” Cheyenne Jones, 14, will auction a market hog named Pumba. She is also the vice president of the Rescue Up ‘n Comin’ 4-H Club and is showing a 5-year-old n

CAO Ashton to step down next year El Dorado County CAO Chief Administrative Officer Don Ashton notified the El Dorado County Board of Supervisors June 14 of his intention to step down and resign from his position in March 2023. He suggested the board begin recruitment for the position this month to provide ample time to select the next CAO. “El Dorado County has been very fortunate to have Don at the helm for the last six and a half years, securing a healthy budget that puts us in a good position as we approach uncertain fiscal times, and navigating the county through unprecedented times related to the COVID-19 pandemic and the Caldor Fire,” said Board Chair Lori Parlin. “And in true fashion regarding his forward and

Ashton began his career with El Dorado County as the chief fiscal officer for the Sheriff ’s Office in January 2011. He was director of the Health and Human Services Agency for three years before being appointed CAO in May 2016. During his time as CAO Ashton shepherded the development and updates to the county’s Strategic Plan and budget policies resulting in record amounts in contingency and reserves to address infrastructure challenges and the fiscal uncertainties facing the

Maximum sentence for molester Deputy district attorney Kassie Cardullo argued for the maximum sentence of 100 years to life plus four years and eight months and Judge Mark Ralphs agreed the maximum sentence was appropriate. In a news release from the DA’s Office officials state, “We are beyond proud of your courage today and every day since Aiello violated your trust, your bodies and your sense of security. We are proud that you were able to speak your truth and face your abuser with dignity.” Aiello, a 59-year-old resident of Pilot Hill, was convicted of 10 counts of child molestation and one count of kidnapping.
Mountain Democrat staff Jeffrey Keith Aiello was sentenced to 100 years to life for molesting six children between 1999 and 2015. Prosecutors with the El Dorado County District Attorney’s Office said Department 2 of the El Dorado County Superior Court was packed with victims, family members, jurors and law enforcement Tuesday to witness Aiello receive his sentence for crimes that occurred in El Dorado, Contra Costa and Nevada counties. Prosecutors noted many in the courtroom were in tears as victims read impact statements.

CRIME LOG The following was taken from El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office logs:
Suzanne Rees
Suzanne Lynn Rees, Sue to most, lost her decade-long battle with cancer at home on May 25. She came into this world July 23, 1956 in Whittier, Calif., and was the only child of Steven and Helen Brummer. Her mother passed away in 2016. As a child, she enjoyed school, Girl Scouts, going to Disneyland and being with her friends. She attended California High School in Whittier, the same school where her father taught history. Sue spent a semester abroad in Germany in 1973 where she developed a life-long love of Mercedes-Benz and beer. During high school and afterward she was actively involved in Job’s Daughter Bethel No. 282 in La Habra, where she was Honor Queen in 1975. After graduation from high school in 1974, Sue worked at the iconic Bob’s Big Boy on Whittier Boulevard, where many local police officers came for coffee and food. This is where she met the love of her life, Stan the Man. Stanton “Stan” Rees and Sue married in 1976 and stayed happily married until Stan’s death in 2017. Sue spent many years working for California’s DMV, where she enjoyed training and various challenging assignments in both Southern California and then Sacramento. She retired from the state in 2001 and then devoted her full attention to her other passions, family and needlework. Stan brought to the marriage three children and in 1992, Stan and Sue had Kelsey. When Kelsey was 3 years old, Stan retired from the Whittier Police Department and the family moved to Placerville. They designed and built their dream house. In Placerville Sue fulfilled her dream of owning a needlework store and opened Kelsey’s Needle Krafts in 2001. Stan and Sue poured their sweat and lives into the business. Sensing they would do better in the historical downtown area, they moved the shop just a few years later. Sue was very involved in the local community, dedicating many hours to the downtown business association, serving as the band uniform mom at El Dorado High School while Kelsey attended and spending countless hours working at the El Dorado County Fair. After many years the reality of being a sole proprietor took its toll, then Sue had a great idea: turn the shop into a cooperative. Kelsey’s Needle Krafts continues today as a cooperative with many wonderful partners. Sue is survived by her father Steve Brummer, daughter Kelsey Walkover, son-in-law Joshua Walkover, beloved granddaughter Lillian Walkover and by her three stepchildren Christine Kelly, Jeffery Rees and Timothy Rees. She will be mourned by her family, her friends and the Placerville community at large. A celebration of Sue’s life will be held June 25 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Marshall Building at the El Dorado County Fairgrounds. Woman dies at Folsom Lake Sel Richard Staff writer
An afternoon of fun at Folsom Lake took a dark turn June 12 after a 30-year-old woman and two other people fell off a personal watercraft Sunday afternoon. At approximately 12:45 p.m. Folsom Lake State Recreation Area staff received report of a major medical incident with CPR in progress at the Browns Ravine entrance to the lake. “A good Samaritan assisted the three individuals onto their vessel and transported them back to the Browns Ravine launch ramp,” reported Folsom Lake SRA sector superintendent Rich Preston. “While en route the (woman)
lost consciousness and they were met at the launch ramp by the El Dorado County Sheriff ’s Department that just happened to be there launching their vessels.” CPR was initiated by sheriff ’s officers until the El Dorado Hills Fire Department arrived on scene and paramedics took over patient care. The woman was transported to Mercy Folsom and later pronounced deceased. Her cause of death is under investigation. The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office has identified the woman as Ariel Ampania Pittman of Antelope. All three of the personal watercraft riders were wearing life jackets, Preston confirmed.
Mail thief gets 4 years in prison Contributor Richard Beldon Waters III, 29, formerly of Contra Costa County, was sentenced Monday to four years in prison for bank fraud and possession of stolen mail, U.S. Attorney Phillip A. Talbert announced. According to court documents, between April and August 2020, Waters and co-defendant Desiree Bello aka Desiree Sanchez, 28, of Contra Costa County, perpetrated a mail theft and bank fraud scheme throughout Northern California. The scheme involved stealing mail from residential mailboxes and harvesting bankcards, identification documents, financial information, checks and personally identifying information for use in fraudulent activity. Waters and Bello used the identification and personal information of mail theft victims to obtain money
and property from banks and businesses. On at least two occasions Waters and Bello used identification documents and financial instruments of mail theft victims to purchase and lease vehicles from car dealerships. On June 25, 2020, Bello entered a Hyundai dealership in Stockton to lease a new Hyundai Genesis G80 using a stolen identity. She made an initial $7,000 payment with a check in the victim’s name, and also submitted a lease application using the victim’s name, date of birth, California driver’s license number and Social Security number. The dealership ultimately approved the application. Bello was able to drive the new G80, valued at approximately $55,490, off the lot. On two separate occasions in May 2020 Waters knowingly possessed stolen mail. On May 11,
2020, he was arrested in Folsom, where he possessed more than 300 pieces of stolen mail. Similarly, on May 18, 2020, he was arrested in El Dorado Hills, where he possessed five large trash bags of mail that he and his co-schemers had just stolen minutes earlier from a residential complex. This case was the product of an investigation by the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, the Stockton Police Department, the Folsom Police Department, the Concord Police Department, the Pittsburg Police Department, the El Dorado County Sheriff ’s Office, the Sonoma County Sheriff ’s Office and the California Highway Patrol. Assistant U.S. Attorney Robert J. Artuz prosecuted the case. In March 2022 Bello was sentenced to four years and nine months in prison for committing the same crimes as Waters.

Joe Biden’s real deficit
T
he president now brags that he cut the deficit! “We’re on track,” he says, to have “the biggest decline in a single year ever in American history.” It’s actually true. But utterly deceitful. President Joe Biden’s JOHN STOSSEL deficit will be down from last year, but that’s only because he spent such gargantuan amounts then. For once, the media did not take his remarks at face value. Even CNN ran a “fact check” that quoted a Moody’s Analytics director saying, “The actions of the administration and Congress have undoubtedly resulted in higher deficits, not smaller ones.” Much higher. Despite record tax revenues from last year’s booming stock markets, our national debt will increase by about $1 trillion. Sadly, most people don’t care. These big numbers are too abstract. This will not end well. During Barack Obama’s presidency, I complained about his irresponsible spending. Obama practically doubled our debt. What a relief it was when Donald Trump was elected! He looked at the budget and said, “There’s a lot of fat in there!” He promised he’d “cut spending, big-league!” Foolishly, I believed him. But Trump cut almost nothing. He bragged that his military spending set “an all-time record.” Congress was partly to blame, but under Trump, our debt rose by another third. Never trust politicians. Last year, Biden made things much worse. He signed a $1.9 trillion COVID-19 relief law, saying he was “giving people in this nation, working people, middle class folks, people who built the country, a fighting chance.” It included $1,400 stimulus checks, increased unemployment benefits and increased child tax credits. Then he added the $1.2 trillion “infrastructure” bill, which included billions in state and local aid, billions for schools, billions for small businesses, $110 billion for infrastructure and $66 billion for Biden’s favorite subsidy for the rich, money-losing Amtrak. Biden wanted to spend even more, but his Build Back Better Act failed to pass. Thanks, Joe Manchin. You saved us $2.2 trillion and made our government a little less irresponsible. Biden’s recent deficit-reduction brag didn’t mention that he wants to increase the deficit even more. He recently put taxpayers on the hook for $5.8 billion in debt from people who attended Corinthian Colleges. Now he wants taxpayers to pay hundreds of billions more so other students don’t have to pay. Biden also bragged about a “record 6.7 million jobs created last year — the most in the first year of any president in American history.” But the president didn’t create those jobs. In panic over COVID, governments shut down so many businesses that they raised the unemployment rate to 14.7%. Biden then slowed hiring further by giving nonworkers extended unemployment benefits and fat stimulus checks. ■

Letters to the Editor Of fathers and sons EDITOR: his is a true, heartbreaking tale of a father and son who forgot what love is — told through the lens of my friend Don. Don’s eldest son and my eldest son were the same age, schooled together from Montessori through El Dorado High School. They shared the same academic intelligence in many Advanced Placement courses, they swam together in recreation and high school swim teams for nearly 14 years, participated in high school drama and also played soccer and basketball — sometimes on the same team. Don had an engaging ear-to-ear smile, quick wit and a wonderful sense of humor. Suffice it to say, we became good friends. Don was an academic who was religiously agnostic and a wiz at anything involving mathematics or mechanics. He spent his time enjoying his sons’ athletic games, drama and teaching them his joy of mathematics. In his senior year Aaron, Don’s eldest son, much to the pride of his father received a scholarship to MIT Don told everyone who’d listen about Aaron’s achievement. Aaron too was proud, but he developed a circle of friends who had deep faith and, unbeknownst to Don, Aaron also applied for a scholarship to Brigham Young University, which offered a full academic scholarship. Don was beside himself, angered over Aarons refusing MIT and his anger was further fueled when Aaron announced his conversion to the Mormon faith. So angered, Don stopped talking to his son and all but threw him out of the house. Aaron went off to BYU, having never spoken to his father. Time passed, still, a chasm of rejection felt by the son and anger by the father. Then, on Father’s Day weekend Aaron jumped in a car of three girl friends and headed home to Placerville. He wanted to surprise his dad. The four traveled safely in a new midsize car until just outside Reno, where a fluke accident rolled the car over and over. The girls were fine; Aaron was dead. My friend Don lived the remainder of his life with grief and anger — angry at himself and angry that he failed to recognize his son was making choices men must make. Don and I found each other on Main Street a couple years after Aaron’s death. We hugged, he tried to smile but that engaging, ear-to-ear smile was gone. His face was long and a profound sadness
T
lingered in his words. He said “I forgot to love. I was so blinded by the things I wanted for him I forgot Aaron had his life. I just forgot that I loved him.” This was the last time I saw Don, who died a couple years after this encounter. I think it was from a broken heart. Call your parents. Tell them you love them. It is not that difficult. RON BRIGGS El Dorado Hills
Harn is right again EDITOR: fter reading the June 3 front page article, “County takes another step in homeless shelter effort,” it’s frightening to me that our Board of Supervisors would approve 4-1 (Turnboo dissenting) considering a homeless/navigation center near the intersection of Highway 50 and Missouri Flat Road. It is perhaps the highestused traffic corridor on the Western Slope with the exception of Highway 50 and El Dorado Hills Boulevard. Just over two years ago, in March 2020, a pedestrian man (Don Dedinas) was killed at Perks Court and Highway 50 — the same location proposed for our new homeless center. That is a high-speed traffic corridor all hours of the day and night. You may be inviting a needless public safety concern choosing that location. I have never met our county Auditor-Controller Joe Harn. However, reading his comment in the article, “The county has invested tens of millions of dollars improving the Missouri Flat Interchange …” reminds me of the costly county development fee lawsuit that Harn tried to persuade county officials to mitigate (several Mountain Democrat articles on this issue) long before it became such a costly fiasco, money not well spent. I think we should listen to Joe this time; he seems to have what is becoming more uncommon today — common sense. We’re not helping the homeless with that improper site location. It’s dangerous, plain and simple. The county should consider giving the $140,385 pre-construction work contract awarded to G&G Builders as vouchers to the homeless until they find a less hazardous site. Spending that initial money and far more to develop a navigation center

Throughout life the way we typically learn is the hard way. Education is always expensive. Our vision is 20/20 looking back. past the “55” mark of life we start to realize what the “old timers” told us was true. You know how it is because you probably tell your kids about what is right and wrong and what they will appreciate or regret. In most cases they don’t pay much attention to you. The only season of being a father that you have is this one. No future is guaranteed and yesterday is gone. You do have today. Have a loving and forgiving heart. Extend grace and a second, third or fourth chance. Try to spend time with those you love. You are probably finding out now that your grown children are too busy for you. They have lives of their own and you may not be a priority. It hurts some but they probably are being like you used to be. Don’t lose sleep over this but be available and reach out as
you are able. Finally, you have to be more than the human ATM machine. You can’t buy your children’s affection for the rest of your life. Every parent wants to help their children but the best thing you can do for them is work with them to help them care for themselves. You can either teach them to fish or spend the rest of your life fishing for them and this ends up being a hard life for you and cripples them. Today is another opportunity to be a good father. This is also a good day for you to reciprocate love and affection to your dad. A father and a child working together can make a great family. For many people, that meant they could make as much, or more, collecting unemployment. No wonder they didn’t go back to work. Finally, most benefits have run out so, of course, we have job growth now. It’s not because of anything good that Biden did. Under Biden, Trump and Obama, government federal spending almost doubled. Hope for future spending responsibility is bleak. “Biden’s 10-year outlook still would rack up $14.4 trillion in deficits,” reports Bloomberg.

More money gets printed, inflation gets worse and the national debt grows. Politicians need to make actual cuts to make a difference in our debt. Budget cuts are needed to give our children hope for a prosperous future. But Biden won’t do that. 2 locals headed to College World Series Thomas Frey Staff writer Since 1950 college baseball players have dreamed of being on one of the eight teams to earn a trip to Omaha, Neb., in mid-June for the College World Series. This year El Dorado County pitchers Ty Uber playing for Stanford University and Pete Hansen on the University of Texas roster will make the journey. This stage is nothing new to Hansen, a draft-eligible redshirt sophomore who throws left-handed. Wearing the Burnt Orange in the 2021 College World Series, the southpaw threw 5.2 dominant innings in a win over University of Virginia that sent the Longhorns to the Final Four. He was a freshman AllAmerican in 2021 after compiling a 9-1 record with a 1.88 earned run average. In his career at Texas he is 22-3 with a 2.47 ERA and he sits on MLB.com’s Top 200 MLB Draft prospects. While Hansen was finishing his senior season at Oak Ridge in 2019, Uber was winning a section championship

Stanford freshman starting pitcher Ty Uber has helped lead the Cardinal to the 2022 College World Series in Omaha, Neb. The Ponderosa alum will be joined in Omaha by Oak Ridge alum Pete Hansen, who is in his third year pitching at Texas. at Ponderosa as a sophomore. After recording a career 1.54 ERA at Ponderosa Uber, who will be drafteligible in 2024, was thrust into the Stanford starting rotation as a freshman this season. He won 80% of his decisions, including a postseason win over Texas State University June 5. Hansen and Uber each average more than one strikeout per inning. This is Stanford’s second consecutive trip to Omaha and the squad is looking to win the
whole thing for the first time since 1988, when MLB Hall of Famer Mike Mussina donned the Cardinal Red. Texas has won six titles in its storied history and Hansen will be looking to add his name to a list of Longhorn legends who have won a national championship such as Roger Clemens. Texas’ road to a title begins Friday against the University of Notre Dame at 4 p.m. and Stanford will open against University of Arkansas Saturday at 11 a.m.

The Phoenix celebrate its 12U Placerville Girls championship.
The Phoenix undefeated Thomas Frey Staff writer The Phoenix celebrated a perfect 9-0 season in the 12U Placerville Girls Fastpitch softball league in 2022 under head coach Paul Cruze. “We were known for our sound fundamentals, hardhitting bats and our lights-out pitching,” said Cruze, who had Brigham Craun, Sheila Teague and Jason Teague on his coaching staff. The team averaged 13 runs per game while opponents averaged less than half that. In the circle Mallory Moody led the way pitching for The Phoenix, according to Cruze. “We never had to play catchup when she was on the mound,” Cruze said. “She was the most dominant pitcher I saw all season.” By going undefeated
in the Gold Country Girls Softball League, the team consisting of Moody, Anayjah Smith, Jesse Cruze, Abigail Fleming, Brianna Briggs, Rosemary O’Halloran, Autumn St. Lawrence, Lorelei Garcia, Maylayah Smith, Addison Craun, Brooke Mitchell and Haley
Teague got to play twice against the No. 1 seed from the Foothill Girls Softball League and won the first game 13-9 and the second game 14-8. The roster consists of players from all over the county — Placerville, Lotus, Sly Park, Somerset, Grizzly Flat and Mt. Aukum.

While romance plays smoothly in the imagination, getting into a relationship is messy by comparison and often uncomfortable in its compromises and adjustments. Still, it will be worth it. AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18). You’ll manage people well as you focus on their efforts. No one can help what they were born with, but when you praise good work instead of inborn talent, you’ll get optimum results. PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20). The heart defies logic. For instance, the bigger your heart gets, the less worried you are about breaking it. The elasticity of love offers its own strange protection.

dairy goat named Amber. “Amber is pretty well behaved,” said Jones, who teamed up with her goat named Lulu the previous five years. “This is my first year showing Amber for sportsmanship, this is going to be exciting.” Jones and her family have cows, donkeys, chickens, alpacas, goats and more on their property. The 4-H program is very important to Jones, who said one of her favorite things is when new members sign up.

At Ponderosa FFA, Payge Goodfellow and Paige Fletcher are both very involved. Fletcher is in her ninth year and is showing Ray Ban, her market lamb while Goodfellow is in her third year and is showing a market goat named Buffalo in Saturday’s auction. “It’s a really amazing program and it’s super valuable to build people skills, become a part of a community and learn how to build a team,” said Goodfellow. She noted she worked endless hours finding out how her goat likes to work and perform
while being as comfortable as possible. Fletcher said she loves the agriculture classes at Ponderosa because they are hands on. “I really appreciate this program because it gives me a way to focus and concentrate,” Fletcher said. “It’s just a different way of learning something new about something really interesting and it can set me up for careers in the future.” Go to bit.ly/LivestockEDC for a complete livestock show schedule.

bubblegum-blowing contests, more than 30 musical entertainment acts, a pee-wee rodeo, sea lion splash show, arts and crafts exhibitions, the John M. Studebaker Wheelbarrow Races and so much more. And don’t forget about all the fair food that awaits fairgoers. Hand-dipped corn dogs and cotton candy might be the first to come to mind but there’s also the popular 20-30 Club tacos and Union Mine Music Boosters burgers and fries — these eats help support youth in the community. Other treats are deep fried Oreos, pies by Willamette Pies, Udder Delight ice cream and fruit treats by Antojitos Raspados del Sur, to name just a few. Raising funds for local community service groups, margaritas will be served up by the Rotary Club of Georgetown, beer from American Legion Post 119 and the Rotary Club of Cameron Park will have a wine bar set up.

Confidence Firehouse Gallery presents artist Christofferson’s work Arts and Culture El Dorado News release
P
ainter Loren Christofferson is the subject of the newest exhibition presented by Arts and Culture El Dorado at the Confidence Firehouse Gallery. Dark Mountain, Deep Valley, a series of monochromatic paintings that dive into the artist’s nebulous connection to Yosemite’s remarkable landscape, opens June 23. The exhibition, which evolved from a collaboration with the Scapegoat Collective, features Christofferson’s landscapes that reflect his time immersed in the natural environment. “In the past, I’ve found that just having the intention to ‘create’ something blocks the [creative] process,” the artist explained. “So, to have the intention to enjoy being in nature and not putting any expectation on myself to create, I’ve found, is very freeing. It’s not until I get back to the studio that effortlessly and spontaneously images arise.” The works in this series range from traditionally descriptive landscape paintings to heavily abstracted,

PROSPECTING History-making musician to perform at Busby Cellars News release
N
ational recording artist Liz Longley is changing music history and she’s playing in Somerset June 18. Billboard magazine documented Longley’s success as a fan favorite following her history-making effort as the fourth-highest solo-funded female musician ever. She will perform at Busby Cellars dinner concert. Longley began her music career with a splash, graduating from the esteemed Berklee College of Music. After signing record deals, providing soundtracks for network TV shows and touring alongside Indigo Girls, Colin Hay (Men at Work), Amos Lee and many others, Longley decided to write a new musical chapter. After recording her sixth studio album, Longley purchased her newest tracks back from her own record label and the results were startling. A history-making crowd-sourcing campaign achieved remarkable success, making Longley one of the few artists steering her own career path. listeners: Longley shares her music with the world, enriching fans’ lives and, in return, they provided her with the means necessary for her to make music on her own terms.
Best known for her stop-youin-your-tracks voice, Longley is an accomplished singersongwriter based out of Nashville who has earned accolades from some of the most prestigious songwriting competitions in the country, including the BMI John Lennon Songwriting Scholarship Competition. Her self-titled debut album received critical acclaim, being described as “a thing of beauty” (Pop Dose) and “packed with instantly memorable pop rock songs …” (Popmatters). Her follow up album “Weightless,” released in 2016, was praised as “stunning” (HuffPost) and “something more; a cleverness, a wit and a mix of musical styles” (Dallas Morning News). Longley’s music has been featured on TV shows such as Lifetime’s “Army Wives,” ABC’s “Beauty & The Beast” and MTV’s “Scream.” Busby Cellars is located at 6375 Grizzly Flat Road in Somerset. Dinner will be held 6-7 p.m. and the concert begins at 7:30 p.m. For tickets and more information visit busbycellars.com.

Gorgeous California coastline the subject of a virtual show News release
T
he coastline at or near Garrapata State Park offers visitors some of the best of California’s unique coastal geography. This nature lover’s paradise contains breath-taking scenery constantly changing due to the erosion of the granite rock, sandstone and slate that slowly slips away into the ocean because of age, extreme weather and other natural disasters. Local artist Mike Bagdonas recorded his views of Garrapata through 25 years of hiking the shoreline between Highway 1 and the Pacific Ocean in search of the perfect view to paint on site. He has carried his art supplies and equipment up and down and around many of the coastal trails in this search. See the results in Bagdonas’ first virtual gallery art show, The Beauty of Garrapata, opening June 21 online at mikebagdonas.com. The show runs through Sept. 30. air painting on site. Some of these plein air studies ultimately led to larger studio paintings and several large studio triptychs (three paintings that together make a whole). Bagdonas said he hopes visitors to his site will enjoy his creations from his views of this natural wonderland on the California coast as much as he has enjoyed being there and
painting them. Bagdonas was born and raised in California with artistic abilities noted early in his life. He worked in the public sector over a quarter of a century before turning to art full-time. He spent three years studying art at the California Art Institute following degrees from LA Valley College and Pepperdine University. He has also attended many workshops hosted
by distinguished institutions and artist/ teachers. The artist primarily paints oil paintings on location but also in his studio in El Dorado Hills. He said he finds inspiration from the Sierra Nevada mountain views and coastal views north of Big Sur above Carmel. He also paints oil paintings of cowboys, Native Americans and ■

Green Room presents entertaining Americana acts News release
T
he Green Room Social Club in historical downtown Placerville brings great Americana music to the stage Friday and Saturday. Nashville-based Americana music artists Stacy Antonel and Nathan Kalish play June 17. Joining them on opening slots are local acts Just Bill and David Cameron. The show starts at 6 p.m. and tickets are available for both the in-person performance as well as a live stream. An idiosyncratic artist with a background in classical piano, Antonel (formerly known as Ginger Cowgirl) makes jazzy, country-leaning, clever Americana that feels both vintage and hyper-modern at the same time. Rooted in classic country but influenced by jazz, pop and R&B, her throwback “country jazz” style conjures the ‘20s-’30s musical era when jazz and country weren’t such disparate genres. She holds a degree in anthropology from University of California, Berkeley, and got her start singing jingles for MTV and Jeep while living in South America.

See The Coffis Brothers, above left, Saturday night and Stacy Antonel, above right, performs Friday night at The Green Room Social Club in Placerville. She has since opened for Graham Nash, Kelsey Waldon and Mike & the Moonpies. Kalish is a multiinstrumentalist, producer, engineer and wandering storyteller. Born in Milwaukee, Wisc., to missionary parents, he was moved around for most of his formative years. By the time Kalish had graduated high school, he had already lived all over the Midwest, as well as Western Europe and directly after the wall fell in Eastern Europe. Kalish’s extensive back catalog of independent releases
and hard-touring work ethic has landed him on stages with Lucinda Williams, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Steve Miller Band and many other current and legacy acts. Saturday, Americana artists The Coffis Brothers showcase the new recording “Turn My Radio Up,” 8:30-11:30 p.m. MerryGold opens for the main act. Jaime and Kellen Coffis play rock, blues, acoustic folk and country music that travel both backwards and forwards in time. “We have always loved the radio,” Kellen
said. “You can listen to one station and hear something you’ve never heard anywhere else or you can listen to the classic rock station and hear music that harkens back to yesteryear. Our music does both of those things, too.” This latest album was recorded at producer and Mother Hips frontman Tim Bluhm’s home studio in Marin and the band will be fresh off sharing a stage with him from a show in San Francisco. “It’s all-American music,” Kellen said. Raised in the Santa Cruz Mountains, Jaime
and Kellen share a connection forged at an early age by their musician mother to sing harmony and focus on melody, mood and message. Influenced by pioneers such as Buddy Holly and the Everly Brothers and rockers such as Eagles and Tom Petty, the Coffis Brothers perform songs for car stereos, hazy afternoons and long highways. Jangling guitar leads and frontporch folk songs share equal space with heartland rock anthems and campfire-worthy Americana ballads, all dreamt into existence by
a group of road warriors who wear their West Coast stripes proudly. This is honest, heartfelt roots-rock with an emphasis on the roots. Full band includes bassist Aidan Collins, lead guitarist Kyle Poppen and drummer Cory Graves. Music from Luke and Kaylee, a Nashville country duo, precedes MerryGold/The Coffis Brothers concert. The duo’s show begins at 5 p.m. For tickets to all of of The Green Room’s events visit tickets. clubgreenroom.com.
Amazing fingerstyle guitarist comes to Sutter Creek Theater News release
W
orld-renowned fingerstyle guitarist Richard Smith’s ever growing repertoire comprises a wide variety of music from classical Bach to The Beatles pop. It includes Scott Joplin Rags just like Sousa marches, Chopin, Mozart and fiddle tunes. It ranges from jazz standards to Chet Atkins and Jerry Reed and to Django Reinhardt gypsy swing, not to mention his intriguing originals. See him deliver both, lightning fast
barn-burners and beautiful ballads, occasionally spiced with vocals, at the Sutter Creek Theater Friday, June 17. Smith’s incredible stylistic wealth is founded in a lifelong love for music. Born in Beckenham, Kent, England in 1971, he started playing guitar at age 5 under the instruction of his father. Concentrating initially on the country picking of Chet Atkins and Merle Travis, young Smith digested everything he heard, learning even the most complicated of these tunes with ease and confounding everyone with his dexterity. It seemed that not only did

The requirements of California Civil Code Section 2923.5(b)/2923.55(c) were fulfilled when the Notice of Default was recorded. NOTICE TO POTENTIAL BIDDERS: If you are considering bidding on this property lien, you should understand that there are risks involved in bidding at a trustee auction. You will be bidding on a lien, not on the property itself. Placing the highest bid at a trustee auction does not automatically entitle you to free and clear ownership of the property. You should also be aware that the lien being auctioned off may be a junior lien. If you are the highest bidder at the auction, you are or may be responsible for paying off all liens senior to the lien being auctioned off, before you can receive clear title to the property. You are encouraged to investigate the existence, priority, and size of outstanding liens that may exist on this property by contacting the county recorder’s office or a title insurance company, either of which may charge you a fee for this information. If you consult either of these resources, you should be aware that the same lender may hold more than one mortgage or deed of trust on the property. NOTICE TO PROPERTY OWNER: The sale date shown on this notice of sale may be postponed one or more times by the mortgagee, beneficiary, trustee, or a court, pursuant to Section 2924g of the California Civil Code. The law requires that information about trustee sale postponements be made available to you and to the public, as a courtesy to those not present at the sale. If you wish to learn whether your sale date has been postponed, and, if applicable, the rescheduled time and date for the sale of this property, you may call or visit this Internet Web site www.ndscorp.com/sales, using the file number assigned to this case 22-00161-QQ-CA. Information about postponements that are very short in duration or that occur close in time to the scheduled sale may not immediately be reflected in the telephone information or on the Internet Web site. The best way to verify postponement information is to attend the scheduled sale. NOTICE TO TENANT*: You may have a right to purchase this property after the trustee auction pursuant to Section 2924m of the California Civil Code. If you are an “eligible tenant buyer,” you can purchase the property if you match the last and highest bid placed at the trustee auction. If you are an “eligible bidder,” you may be able to purchase the property if you exceed the last and highest bid placed at the trustee auction. There are three steps to exercising this right of purchase. First, 48 hours after the date of the trustee sale, you can call 888-264-4010, or visit this internet website www.ndscorp. com, using the file number assigned to this case 22-00161-QQ-CA to find the date on which the trustee’s sale was held, the amount of the last and highest bid, and the address of the trustee. Second, you must send a written notice of intent to place a bid so that the trustee receives it no more than 15 days after the trustee’s sale. Third, you must submit a bid so that the trustee receives it no more than 45 days after the trustee’s sale. If you think you may qualify as an “eligible tenant buyer” or “eligible bidder,” you should consider contacting an attorney or appropriate real estate professional immediately for advice regarding this potential right to purchase. *Pursuant to Section 2924m of the California Civil Code, the potential rights described herein shall apply only to public auctions taking place
on or after January 1, 2021, through December 31, 2025, unless later extended. KISTLER AND DIANA M. KISTLER, HUSBAND AND WIFE AS JOINT TENANTS, as Trustor(s), in favor of BANK OF AMERICA, N.A., A NATIONAL BANKING ASSOCIATION as Beneficiary, WILL SELL AT PUBLIC AUCTION TO THE HIGHEST BIDDER, in lawful money of the United States, all payable at the time of sale, that certain property situated in said County, California describing the land therein as: AS MORE FULLY DESCRIBED IN SAID DEED OF TRUST The property heretofore described is being sold “as is”. The street address and other common designation, if any, of the real property described above is purported to be: 5760 QUARTZ DR, EL DORADO, CA 95623 The undersigned Trustee disclaims any liability for any incorrectness of the street address and other common designation, if any, shown herein. Said sale will be made without covenant or warranty, express or implied, regarding title, possession, or encumbrances, to pay the remaining principal sum of the Note(s) secured by said Deed of Trust, with interest thereon, as provided in said Note(s), advances if any, under the terms of the Deed of Trust, estimated fees, charges and expenses of the Trustee and of the trusts created by said Deed of Trust. The total amount of the unpaid balance of the obligations secured by the property to be sold and reasonable estimated costs, expenses and advances at the time of the initial publication of this Notice of Trustee’s Sale is estimated to be $508,743.24 (Estimated). However, prepayment premiums, accrued interest and advances will increase this figure prior to sale. Beneficiary’s bid at said sale may include all or part of said amount. In addition to cash, the Trustee will accept a cashier’s check drawn on a state or national bank, a check drawn by a state or federal credit union or a check drawn by a state or federal savings and loan association, savings association or savings bank specified in Section 5102 of the California Financial Code and authorized to do business in California, or other such funds as may be acceptable to the Trustee. In the event tender other than cash is accepted, the Trustee may withhold the issuance of the Trustee’s Deed Upon Sale until funds become available to the payee or endorsee as a matter of right. The property offered for sale excludes all funds held on account by the property receiver, if applicable. If the Trustee is unable to convey title for any reason, the successful bidder’s sole and exclusive remedy shall be the return of monies paid to the Trustee and the successful bidder shall have no further recourse. Notice to Potential Bidders If you are considering bidding on this property lien, you should understand that there are risks involved in bidding at a Trustee auction. Notice to Property Owner The sale date shown on this Notice of Sale may be postponed one or more times by the Mortgagee, Beneficiary, Trustee, or a court, pursuant to Section 2924g of the California Civil Code. The law requires that information about Trustee Sale postponements be made available to you and to the public, as a courtesy to those not present at the sale. If you wish to learn whether your sale date has been postponed, and, if applicable, the rescheduled time and date for the sale of this property, you may call Nationwide Posting & Publication at 916.939.0772 for information regarding the Trustee’s Sale or visit the Internet Website www.nationwideposting. com for information regarding the sale of this property, using the file number assigned to this case, CA07000902-20-1. Information about postponements that are very short in duration or that occur close in time to the scheduled sale may not immediately be reflected in the telephone information or on the Internet Website. The best way to verify postponement information is to attend the scheduled sale. Notice to Tenant NOTICE TO TENANT FOR FORECLOSURES AFTER JANUARY 1, 2021 You may have a right to purchase this property after the trustee auction pursuant to Section 2924m of the California Civil Code. First, 48 hours after the date of the trustee sale, you can call 916.939.0772, or visit this internet website www. nationwideposting.com, using the file number assigned to this case CA07000902-20-1 to find the date on which the trustee’s sale was held, the amount of the last and highest bid, and the address of the trustee. Second, you must send a written notice of intent to place a bid so that the trustee receives it no more than 15 days after the trustee’s sale. Third, you must submit a bid so that the trustee receives it no more than 45 days after the trustee’s sale. If you
think you may qualify as an “eligible tenant buyer” or “eligible bidder,” you should consider contacting an attorney or appropriate real estate professional immediately for advice regarding this potential right to purchase.
