roud mom Nicole Hughes called the Oak Ridge Dance Team “remarkable.” “Not only was it an honor for our Oak Ridge Dance Team to compete at the USA Dance Nationals in Anaheim ... this year, but to win the National Title in the Small Group Hip Hop category and make Oak Ridge High School history is truly remarkable,” Hughes said. Her daughter Taylor Hughes has been dancing and competing in hip hop since she was 8. Taylor’s older cousin Ashley Christensen competed for Oak Ridge in years prior and now Taylor follows in her footsteps. This is her first year competing as a freshman for the Oak Ridge team. “The opportunity to compete at USA Dance Nationals in Anaheim was the ultimate honor. Many don’t realize the years of commitment and sacrifice each dancer makes to reach this level of competition,” Taylor told Village Life. “The reality of winning a national championship and also making school history is an experience I’ll never forget. Going to Disneyland the next day was magical.”

Oak Ridge Dance Team members Kara Chavez, Grace Zhu, Ava Nezbeth, Nicole Nunez, Taylor Hughes, Rose Baldovinos, Blair Foster, Sophia Morse, Amanda Haase, Alisa Kornilova and Grace Reimer celebrate their victory.

Calculated by DTA Assessment Engineers, the assessments were distributed from the district’s operating budget. The staff report indicates that for fiscal year 2023, 10 LLADs are at maximum, nine are assessed lower than last year and six have modest increases. Four LLADs in particular were assessed significant increases — Francisco Oaks LLAD, Highland Hills 3 LLAD, North Commercial Boulevard LLAD and Carson Creek LLAD. The Francisco Oaks increase from $184 to $471 was due to much-needed repairs to ■
