The El Dorado Hills Tasmanian Devils Swim team has named EDH native Branden Mills as the new coach. “Returning to Taz as a coach is going back to my roots and I’m really appreciative to have the opportunity,” Mills told Village Life. “Moving back to El Branden Mills Dorado Hills was the best thing I could have done. I really appreciate my family and where I came from.” Mills attended Oak Ridge High School, swimming for the Trojans all four years, then headed to Arizona State University where he swam under Michael Phelps’ coach, Bob Bowman, and received the Arthur Ashe Jr. Diversity and Inclusion Award. He graduated in 2017 with a bachelor’s degree in human communication and later received a master’s degree in sports law and business through the Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law at ASU.
shed the mask Thomas Frey Staff writer The El Dorado Union High School District announced a significant change in mask enforcement last week: asking students to mask up and leaving it at that. “The enforcement of masking will be done by educating students and asking them to mask but no further actions of exclusion from class will be taken,” state district officials in a letter to parents. As COVID-19 cases across the state drop, Gov. Gavin Newsom was on Feb. 14 expected to revise the mask mandate for schools but instead, California Health and Human Services Secretary Dr. Mark
Ghaly announced there would be a two-week delay in a decision and rules for schools would be reassessed Feb. 28. Dozens of Oak Ridge High School students protested that announcement in front of campus Feb. 15. According to a post to the Facebook group EDH Republicans, students showed up to school without masks as part of an organized protest that day. Oak Ridge administrators said they moved the protestors into separate classrooms to continue their schoolwork but the students left to demonstrate outside. EID mulls maps Michael Raffety Village Life correspondent With four alternative maps presented Feb. 14, El Dorado Irrigation District board members all indicated their preference for the first redistricting map shown by District Counsel Brian Poulsen. Called Alternative 1A, it shifts Division 4 to the west of Cambridge Road in Cameron Park and adds in Latrobe Road’s business park and expanding residential area in southern El Dorado Hills. Division 4 also gains another part of El Dorado Hills, mainly Serrano. Additionally, Division 4 would gain from Division 5 the portion of EID that juts into Sacramento County for part of the n
