Dawn Hodson Staff writer More than 900 new homes are proposed for El Dorado Hills and El Dorado Irrigation District officials say there’s enough water to go around. EID’s Board of Directors unanimously approved a water supply assessment for the Creekside Village Specific Plan at the Feb. 8 meeting. Preparation of an assessment by the district is required for proposed developments consisting of more than 500 residential units. EID’s approval was needed before the water supply assessment could be incorporated into the environmental impact report being prepared by the county. Proposed to be located on approximately 208 acres on the southern end of El Dorado Hills, the Creekside Village project will have Latrobe Road to the east, the county line to the west, the El Dorado Hills Business Park to the north and undeveloped land to the south. The development will include 926 residential dwelling units, with 676 designated as low density and 250 designated as medium density. In addition 14.3 acres will

Creekside Village is a residential project on the south side of Highway 50. be devoted to parks, 46.3 acres to open space and 10.4 acres for traffic circulation. Law requires a water supply assessment of whether projected water supplies will be enough to meet existing and planned water demands over a 20-year horizon. The assessment includes an estimate of project water demands through build-out, identifies water supply availability to meet that demand and assesses whether expected water sources will be sufficient to meet the projected water demand of the

project during normal, single dry and multiple dry year conditions. The study, based on EID’s 2015 Urban Water Management Plan, found the district has sufficient water supplies to serve the proposed project. The report noted that at build-out the project’s potable water demands are conservatively estimated at 413 acre-feet annually, excluding nonrevenue water and up to approximately 475 acrefeet of water annually when non-revenue water is included. Non-revenue water is water lost due

to leaks, fire protection, hydrant flushing, unauthorized connections and meter inaccuracies. Comparing demand to supplies, in a normal water year the district is projected to have 107,690 acre-feet of water and demand for 46,833 acrefeet. By 2045, it will have 108,190 acre-feet of water and demand for 58,815 acre-feet. Even in a dry year district officials say they will be able to meet demand. Based on that assessment, the consultants recommended and the board approved the water supply assessment.

“You cannot prevent all vandalism so we would like to see some community buy in,” he said, proposing community service hours for teens to help police the area and help with repairs. But he said he suspects that current times contribute to the area’s nefarious activity. “Hopefully some of that boredom dies down when we get back to some sort of ‘normal’ but the community could invest in programs that give safe and healthy alternatives to mischief,” he suggested. “Boredom is a major driver of vandalism for younger folks; address the boredom and you address much of the tomfoolery.” Klinetobe’s group is not the first. Multiple repair attempts have been made, according to Rolling Hills Community Services District General Manager Chaney Hicks. Stolen letters were replaced as an Eagle Scout project in 2005 and five years ago JWA reinstalled fallen rocks onto the sign as a public service. “Potential construction of a no climb fence has been talked about, but funding such an endeavor would not be within the district’s budget, which is the crux of the matter,” said Hicks, who explained that maintenance costs have escalated in recent years. “The district only receives $200 annually from 399 parcels.

or Holy Trinity School students community service is no stranger but February is special. This month the El Dorado Hills school’s Student Tribunal decided on a project that would have three beneficiaries: memory care facilities, the MakeA-Wish Foundation and also their school’s teachers and staff. “The kids are really charged about it,” said Principal Denise Remick. “Especially when there’s so much that we cannot do right now. That was the motivation behind it; what can we do to bring a smile to someone’s face and make a difference to somebody else in these times when there’s so many things that we can’t do?” The students solicited donations, a portion of which went toward purchasing flowering plants for memory care facility residents at Ponté Palmero, Eskaton, The Pavilion, Oakmont, New West Haven and El Dorado Senior Care Village. Along with the plants, 200

crafts and cards made by Holy Trinity students and parishioners were delivered in time for Valentine’s Day. The parish’s Faith Formation confirmation candidates also donated more than 50 bags and cards. Remaining funds were donated to the Spirit of Benny, a Make-A-Wish fundraiser benefitting kids and families of El Dorado County. And finally, Holy Trinity teachers and staff were presented with flower bouquets for Teacher Appreciation Week. Monthly service projects are a mainstay of the school’s curriculum, with past projects such as collecting socks and canned goods for outreach programs like Upper Room, toiletries for the needy or baby wipes for Mother Teresa Maternity Home. “We think it’s really important to do community service with and for our community,” said Holy Trinity eighth grader Katie Newman. “What I thought was special was that everyone was in on it — the parish, the students and confirmation students all just trying to help and really come together.”
