An El Dorado High School student was arrested after sending a school shooting threat through an online application. Early Wednesday morning Placerville Police Department got word from school administration that someone was threatening to “shoot up the school,” according to a police department press release. After an investigation, officers were able to identify the student, who eventually confessed to creating and posting the threat on the STOPit app. The student was transported to the juvenile detention facility in South Lake Tahoe upon arrest. Officers and school administration determined before school start time that students could arrive safely. Even so, a heavy police presence was seen near campus Wednesday morning as officers prepared for a potential incident. The STOPit app “is an anonymous reporting/incident management” application that is utilized to warn of potential unsafe situations, according to the school’s website. The school administration monitors the app, the website stated.
