Kelly Bridges, meal site coordinator for El Dorado County Health and Human Services, helps prepare food boxes for the Senior Nutrition Program. Each week boxes are delivered to seniors in need. The program also offers pick-up meals.
Jana Rossi Staff writer El Dorado County Older Adult Services is instrumental in providing necessary services to the county’s senior community; residents 60 and older make up 31% of the population, according to county data. In 2020 vital services like the Senior Nutrition Program became more important than ever after the COVID-19 pandemic struck. Senior Nutrition nearly instantly became a necessity to hundreds of residents who needed freshly prepared meals provided to them. “In 2019 the Senior Nutrition Program was preparing, cooking and serving nearly 400 meals a day,
both home delivered and congregate meals at various sites,” said Jordan Brushia, program assistant. “At the current time, they are preparing, cooking and serving nearly 700 meals a day.” Since the closing of congregate meal sites due to COVID-19 a drive-up program has been in place. Seniors drive up to various locations to pick up fresh or frozen meals; Each Monday 350 grocery boxes filled with vegetable, fruits, butter and other pantry staples are provided for those sheltering in place or on limited resources. The following sites currently offer meal pick-up: • Placerville Senior Center, 937 Spring St., n
Sel Richard Staff writer In an effort to capture “an atmosphere of a preservation of history and cultivation of tourism,” as Moe Mohanna of Mohanna Development Company put it, an event center along with a village center with mixed-use housing, retail and other services is proposed in El Dorado Hills. As Josh Pane of Pane & Pane Associates revealed at January’s Area Planning Advisory Committee meeting, he and the Mohanna family hope for a February submittal of a J6 application to the county. “We’re reaching out to see what kinds of services or

CPCSD drafting major planning document; input sought Jana Rossi Staff writer The Cameron Park Community Services District Board of Directors met Jan. 13 for the first of several strategic planning sessions for the 2020-21 fiscal year. The district is working with consultant Bret Ives of BHI Management Consulting to help establish goals and gather input from the community, stakeholders and board members on matters they think are of upmost importance. Priority input from staff includes, “Emerge from the pandemic as a viable, fiscally sound organization balancing all district services,” and “maintain culture that values professionalism, mutual respect and collaboration,” according to

information shared at the meeting. A Cameron Park residents survey is in progress. Thus far responses to the survey question on what makes Cameron Park a Special Place to Live list “being close to local and regional recreation opportunities,” as top choices, followed by “good schools” and “great neighborhoods.” When asked what important issues or challenges the CSD faces, “parks and Cameron Park Lake” as well as “growth/development” were listed as the highest concerns. Responses will continue to be updated and stakeholder responses will be posted after Feb. 5. A second meeting was held prior to the Board of Directors monthly meeting Jan. 20, during which the board members, staff and Ives tackled mission statement and vision statement ideals. These

topics, including the CSD’s values, are expected to be finalized by the end of February. The draft version of the strategic plan will be discussed during the March 17 board meeting, where it will be up for discussion and possible approval. Last year the CPCSD Board of Directors allocated $10,000 for the district’s new five-year strategic plan as the current plan expires in 2021 and a majority of the objectives have been met, according to CPCSD General Manager Jill Ritzman. The strategic plan in the works is considered the district’s big-picture road map that all other district plans —the annual budgets, master plans and capital improvement plans — will follow. Board members are all very positive with how things are going with the
strategic planning meetings, Ritzman shared. “I think they have appreciated working with our experienced consultant and talking amongst themselves during the workshops to outline what is important to cite in the governance document,” she explained. “All of the specific policy documents the board has approved and staff are implementing, such as the new fire department training tower or the Park Improvement Plan, will now be viewed through the lens of ‘How does this initiative or project align with the district strategic plan?’ It will be a good exercise for the board.” The public is encouraged to join upcoming strategic planning workshops, with the next one scheduled at the end of February. Future workshop times and dates can be found at cameronpark.org.
