Lindsay Piper’s attorney Matthew Johnson said they are “working on a resolution” in her case during a prepreliminary hearing Monday in El Dorado County Superior Court. Lindsay, along with her husband Jordan Piper, pleaded not guilty in November to murder charges in the death of Jordan’s son, 11-year-old Roman Lopez. Jordan’s attorney Tasha Chalfant made no mention of a resolution for her client. Roman was living with his father Jordan, stepmother Lindsay and seven other juveniles in a rented house on Coloma Street in Placerville when he went missing in January 2020. After a search through Placerville, Roman was found dead in the Pipers’ basement. Roman’s death was investigated for more than a year before the Pipers’ arrest came Feb. 3, 2021, at Arnold Meadowmont Lodge in Arnold. They were arrested on suspicion of child abuse and torture. Lindsay faces an additional count of poisoning and Jordan an additional charge of failing to provide for a child. Nine months later murder charges were added after investigators interviewed the other children who lived in the Piper household at the time of Roman’s death. In the December court appearance where the Pipers gave not-guilty pleas, El Dorado County Deputy District Attorney Jay Linden said the other children were interviewed for the first time since being out of the Pipers’ custody, revealing new information that called for the murder charges. The Pipers will appear in court again Feb. 28 to continue the pre-preliminary hearing. PLACE ADDRESS LABEL HERE

Underground piping of the El Dorado Irrigation District’s Main Ditch — 12,725 feet of 52-inch pipeline — is expected to be completed by early February, according to a summary provided to the EID Board of Directors Jan. 24. The pipeline brings water from Forebay Reservoir to Treatment Plant 1 in Pollock Pines, bypassing a dirt ditch contaminated with septic system leach fields. Forebay Reservoir is the terminal point for the 22-mile system of canals and flumes that brings water diverted from the South Fork of the American River near Kyburz. The diverted water comes from four alpine reservoirs in three different counties. Two actions relative to the Main Ditch piping project were approved Jan. 24. One was declaring an average of 1,800 acre-feet of water saved by the project, enabling a later sale of this saved water. The second action was to approve a change order replacing 260 feet of 6-inch water line that wasn’t buried deep enough and was broken by the weight of the n
