Twenty-seven years ago Brunton and five fellow Cameron Park firefighters walked into Williams’ parent’s home just in time for Brunton to catch a brand-new baby boy. He would be named Jesse and later become a Cameron Park Fire Department intern, working at the very station where his birth-story heroes were assigned.

In December Williams shared stories and smiles with Brunton — a meeting both of them will remember this time. Williams’ mother Kim Hart shared the Valentine’s Day birth story with the media during the gathering, explaining that she and her then husband Dick decided their sixth baby would be born in the comfort of their Cameron Park home with the help of a midwife. ferent. He decided he was ready to meet the world before the midwife was able to get there. Hart said she remained calm; after all, this wasn’t her first rodeo. She said she didn’t want Dick to call the paramedics but he wasn’t comfortable with not having the midwife there. “Six giant firemen came through the door,” she said, reminiscing, adding that they weren’t really giant but at that moment it seemed like it. One of the firefighters, 23-year-old Brunton, arrived just in time to “catch him.” Brunton had only been on the job for three months. Although he had delivered two other babies in his short tenure, he acknowledged, “Nothing had been this imminent.” He said he remembers that day as being “nervewracking and scary,” especially since delivering babies isn’t something firefighters are often called to do. “I was hoping my training would kick in.” Humorously, Brunton added, “I didn’t really do a lot that day.” Hart, he noted, had the harder job. Hart recalled wondering to herself

back then if her new little boy would grow up to be a firefighter. The answer, it appears, is a big yes. Williams works as an intern at Station 89. After he shared his story with a coworker, a call was made to Brunton, who is currently the Cal Fire battalion chief in Garden Valley, and a meet and greet was set up for the two men to meet for the first time since that fateful day. Brunton described the meeting as “surreal” while Williams said it was “interesting.” They both acknowledged it was “pretty cool” to meet one another after all these years. The two caught up for the media in early December and Hart brought the Mountain Democrat newspaper article that covered their story back then. For her part, Hart let Brunton know how much she appreciated all he and the other firefighters did that day. “I wasn’t exactly overjoyed,” she said, recalling how she felt when they all arrived in her home. “But they were so sweet and returned later that same day to check in with us. They even told me it was a nice start to their day.”

The parking lot will be gated and locked from sunset to sunrise. “This project went through several community engagement efforts to narrow in on the approved design,” said CSD Parks and Planning Director Tauni Fessler. “The residents of Blackstone, along with our overall EDH community, played a strong role in providing input along the way.” Construction drawings were completed by Stantec over the past year and are expected to be approved within the next two months, ushering in a different park planning system than in past years. “This is the new way in which staff are moving large construction projects forward, so as to avoid unnecessary time overruns due to permitting delays after award of a project,” said Fessler, explaining that Stantec is responsible for pulling all required permits. “When they are done they will be able to hand over to the district a fully approved set of construction drawings along with the necessary permits to be able to move forward.” Finalized construction drawings are expected by February and KYA plans to break ground early this spring. With an estimated six-month construction timeline, the park is slated for completion by fall. The new process bypasses typical requests for proposals, which often take four to seven months to complete and can result in change orders or addendums to the original contract, as was experienced with the still on-going construction of Heritage-Carson Creek Park. “Working with the KYA Group,

we’ve had several successful projects, one being the Promontory synthetic field,” Fessler pointed out. “Our working relationship with them is excellent. They have never come back for any change orders. They’ve been very thorough and meticulous in handling their projects, making sure that when a project is complete they’re handing it over at 100% satisfaction to district and the community.” KYA’s proposal for construction and project management of Valley View Village Park is a not-to-exceed lump sum of $4,992,372.25 barring any district-initiated changes. This includes an extra $916,807 on top of the original cost estimate to cover the addition of six interpretive signs, two shade structures and poured-in-place playground surfacing as well as some inclusive playground elements. The project will be funded by park impact fees held by the county. “This is a flat cost,” said Fessler. “If there happens to be any site challenges, the contractor will work with that with no additional charge to the district. They’re confident with the costs they’ve provided that they would be able to do it without coming back to the district for change orders.” At the December CSD Board of Directors meeting, Director Allan Priest expressed concern with oversight due to the lack of an architect to manage quality control. “There will be weekly meetings with staff on site,” Fessler assured. “KYA Group has agreed to provide that project management and construction oversight with staff checking the specs.” Valley View Village Park is the second of three parks planned within the Valley View Specific Plan. Valley View Sports Park was constructed in 2014.

or patients of Dale Stanec, Jr., DDS, going to the dentist feels a little like going home.

“We know all of our patients. They’re our friends,” said Dr. Stanec, who works alongside his wife and office manager, Elena, in his Cameron Park office. “The experience in our office is very personal. We’re very small and greet each patient by name when they walk in. It’s a comfortable, homey place to have dental work done, and we like it that way.” Dr. Stanec has been in dentistry in the Cameron Park area since 2002. As a kid, he was “always into science and math” and loved the idea of owning his own business. “I ran a lawn-mowing business as a kid — always had some kind of business going — so becoming a dentist and owning my own practice just made sense,” said Dr. Stanec. Dr. Stanec did his undergraduate work at Cal Poly,

San Luis Obispo and then attended dental school at Northwestern University in Chicago. He graduated from Northwestern in 2001 and says that, although he was born and raised in San Jose, it was a natural draw to open his practice in the foothills. “Elena and I love this area. We had a lot of family and friends here and thought it would be a great place to raise our kids.”

In his office, Dr. Stanec offers a full scope of general and cosmetic dentistry with expertise ranging from porcelain veneers and dental implants to crowns and bridges and more. Unlike many other dentists, Dr. Stanec doesn’t employ dental hygienists or other technicians but does all of his dental work himself. “I spend a lot of one-on-one time with my patients. It’s fun for me to do the work myself because I get to spend more time with my patients and hang out with them and really get to know them. It makes it fun to do what I do,” said Dr. Stanec.

Another advantage of keeping his practice small is that, because he sees every patient one at a time, Dr. Stanec can be very thorough and immediately answer any questions that come up. He is also able to really respect his patients’ time. “I am almost always early or on time,” said Dr. Stanec. “My patients know that, so they’re usually early or on time for their appointments, too. It’s a win win for everyone.” Dr. Stanec is located at 3955 Cameron Park Drive — in Cameron Park. His office is right near the Goldorado Shopping Center, directly across from the new Walgreens on Palmer Drive, and is very conveniently located for all of his patients. The move is just one more way Dr. Stanec shows his commitment to providing the best possible care for his patients.

We dedicated two shirts, The Parker and The Phoebe, and two onesies, The Macie and The Allison, to some sweet babies that moved us to give back to this amazing cause. We just finished up raising money for Smiles for Miles (smilesformiles. org), an organization who gives back to Childhood Cancer Awareness.” Another goal is to get to the point where they can buy one and give one for various causes. “We are excited to give back,” said Grace. “We have big plans to give back to neonatal infant care units, receiving homes and charities we are passionate about.” Designing and running a family oriented business is important to them both. “Raising three kids and starting a business, as a teammate, has been a challenge for me,” Trombley said. “Between teaching my two older kids, ages 13 and 10, distant learning modules, nap schedules and laundry — (all) time consuming on their own. I just knew in my heart I need to be home to care for our son. Fast forward a little bit and we have the spunkiest little boy and you wouldn’t even know he was early, but as the months passed I started struggling with not having my own purpose and career. I have such a passion and drive to work and I’m all hands-in.” The business partners have been friends for years, with similar careers and dreams; even their babies were born close together. In addition to selling baby and toddler clothing, they also have myriad accessories such as bows, beanies and swaddles and more. They also have plans to expand their line as they grow. They only source clothing from their favorite brands to ensure it is well made and affordable. “Our models are mostly our boys and children of some of our closest friends,” Grace said. “We may be biased, but we think they are so cute.” They name the clothing after all the babies and toddlers they have met along their journey of motherhood. “Without these kiddos and moms we wouldn’t have had the postpartum support we needed,” Trombley said. It was while walking in the mall that Kopp stopped and asked herself: “Where are the real women’s clothes?” Seeing a need, she decided to take the leap. “This is something I always wanted to do,” Kopp told Village Life. There was a learning curve, a period of trial and error. She said she learned not to buy 18 pieces of clothing from one lot and instead six or eight pieces, but nothing ever went to waste. Kopp donated her overstock to Goodwill. Her goal now is to “turn it and burn it,” jargon learned along the way, and then start all over. Her boutique turned out to be a COVID-19 success story, opening on March 22, right at the beginning of the shutdown. “It was a successful launch and everything sold immediately,” said Kopp, who would initially call her girlfriends as soon as she received her inventory. Although they are a big part of her initial success, she said she currently has more than 150 women who have joined her shop on Facebook and Instagram. Her clothing line targets women 50 and older, but fans of all ages gravitate to

Do I care? • How am I treated by the app administrators? Do I feel respected? • Why am I using this app? Do I receive a benefit from it, or does it bring negative energy into my life? • What are my alternatives? Alternate apps are gaining in popularity to counter the big social media apps. They offer greater privacy. However, they are new and have fewer users — for now. Among these new apps are MeWe (a counter to Facebook), Parler (counter to Twitter) and Rumble (counter to YouTube).
