A Texas-sized Celebration with Families in Wilford Moore

After a great year, McMurry University celebrated its graduates in the University’s first-ever outdoor commencement ceremony in Wilford Moore Stadium on May 14. One of the largest graduation ceremonies In McMurry’s history saw the stadium filled with more than 3,000 families and friends of the graduates.

McMurry President Dr. Sandra S. Harper welcomed graduates and guests, sharing that the University had graduates from Arizona, California, Colorado, Illinois, Michigan, Minnesota, New Mexico, North Dakota, Virginia, Washington, Wisconsin, and of course, Texas. She also noted one graduate was from Ecuador. McMurry alumnus Arthur (Art) L. Pertile, III, J.D., gave the commencement address to the 195 graduates. McMurry also honored distinguished Abilene photographer and historian Bill Wright with an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters.

We’ll see across the stage during the ceremony budding accountants, actors, artists, authors, biochemists, biologists, business owners, coaches, computer scientists, counselors, criminologists, engineers, entrepreneurs, financiers, fitness gurus, health care administrators, historians, law enforcement officers, managers, marketers, mathematicians, ministers, nurses, nurse practitioners, physical therapists, politicians, psychologists, physicists, scientists, sociologists, teachers, and some who are still deciding what the future holds for them. – Dr. Sandra S.
