

Online McMurry Dual Credit Academy (DCA) courses are asynchronous in design and all courses are offered every fall, spring and summer sessions. Face-to-face DCA courses and additional McMurry courses not listed in this document can be delivered for dual credit contingent upon high school instructor credentials. As a commitment to our DCA partner schools, there are no course enrollment minimum requirements and courses will not be closed due to capacity restraints.
Course Identification Number
TCCN is the abbreviation for Texas Common Course Numbering system which is a voluntary, joint effort among Texas community colleges and universities to facilitate transfer of academic coursework. The TCCN is included next to the DCA course when applicable. Courses that do not have an associated TCCN are transferable but it is recommended students contact their receiving institution to determine how their DCA courses may transfer into their intended degree plan.

TEL Education is a non-profit, missional organization that partners with McMurry University to deliver affordable college education to DCA partner schools and students across the country. In concert with McMurry academic faculty and administration, TEL provides education curriculum development services, a proprietary learning management system (LMS), robust technical support, and academic support services for DCA students. The TEL platform and suite of services provide unparalleled support and communication for our DCA students. Every DCA partner high school is assigned an account manager who serves as the lead support team member and provides ongoing communication regarding student progress and success. Through partnership with TEL Education, the McMurry Dual Credit Academy provides affordable education while integrating critical support services for our online asynchronous courses.
Each McMurry DCA course was designed leveraging TEL Education’s expertise in online asynchronous education and instructional design. Every DCA course is designed to build student self-efficacy in online courses. All online courses have a similar course layout, aesthetic, and navigation. Once students build fundamental skills like finding their course documents and syllabus, those skills are transferable to all courses in the DCA catalog. Similarly, every course delivers content through an intuitive modular design. Although the content will differ from course to course, the experience engaging with the course layout, materials, and curriculum will not. Continuity builds confidence and we have been intentional at McMurry University in creating courses that allow students to focus their efforts on learning the content rather than on trying to navigate the course.

An introduction to the fundamental principles and processes of life, including the diversity of life, the nature of cells, the principles of heredity basic organismal, physiology, evolution, and the interdependence of life. BUSI 2320 - Ethics and Entrepreneurship in the Modern World

This course includes discussion of the responsibilities and obligations in global society; principles and problem-solving techniques related to major social problems confronting business organizations; business ethics and corporate social responsibility; and inductive and deductive reasoning in new venture creation. Students will become proficient in research in business ethics, globalization, and entrepreneurship.

Designed as a course for McMurry general education credit in Natural Science for students who do not major or minor in science or engineering. Students who have not had chemistry courses prior to enrollment in the University should take this course before taking any other chemistry course. A general introduction to concepts that are fundamental to chemistry, such as atomic structure, chemical bonding, acids and bases, oxidation and reduction, and nuclear chemistry. Topics studied may vary depending on the focus of the course (forensic chemistry, environmental chemistry, etc.). Concurrent enrollment in lab CHEM 1400L required.

COMM 1310 – Principles of Communication (TCCN SPCH 1311)

An introductory study and application of the basic principles of communication. This course is an option for the general education requirements in the oral communication competency. Emphasis is placed on the acquisition of communication skills that can be applied in interpersonal, small group, and public speaking contexts. Specific concepts explored by this course include self concept and esteem, leadership, conflict management, diversity and intercultural communication issues, listening, nonverbal, communication anxieties, and ethical considerations as both the sender and receiver of messages.

COSC 1322 – Intro to Computer Science and Info Technology

An introductory course for all students. Required course for COSC major and IT major and minor. Topics covered include the development of algorithms, implementation of algorithms, solving software problems, program design, and error handling. Various software design techniques are implemented in a programming language. Students must have a laptop computer.

This course fulfills the fine arts general education requirement. The music appreciation survey course is designed to provide students with the foundation to understand and appreciate basic elements of music through critical and creative thinking/listening.
