The first offering of Affinity sons in Canada reflect masculinity, extra body and big scrotals, all while maintaining impressive calving ease data. As you will see in the catalog, a number of the bulls in the sale are out of first calf heifers as we AI bred Affinity to our entire heifer pen in 2018 and had 100% unassisted births in the spring of 2019. His sons have built-in calving ease and vigor and still have the power to work on cows and deliver respectable weaning weights in the fall. We have even selected two of his sons in the sale that we are declaring as “Heifer Approved”.

LT Affinity 6221 was the high selling bull in the Lindskov-Thiel Bull sale in 2017 selling for $100,000.

50K Tested - Heterozygous Polled

WHY IT’S VALUABLE TO SELECT CATTLE THAT HAVE BEEN 50K TESTED EPDs contain information from an animal's pedigree, performance and possibly DNA (50K Testing) which are directly used to calculate the EPD for that animal in each specific trait. The use of DNA in the EPD calculation allows us to dramatically increase the accuracy of the EPD for animals that have been 50K tested. These genomically-enhanced EPDs allows us to greatly enhance our selection process and better predict the genetic potential of that animal, particularly in young cattle (calves, yearling bulls and heifers) that have no offspring to evaluate.

For example, in the evaluation of an Animal's DNA (50K test), it is roughly equivalent to the reporting of: • 10 Offspring from the tested Animal when calculating Calving Ease • 25 Offspring from the tested Animal when calculating Birth Weight • 15 Offspring from the tested Animal when calculating Weaning Weight • 8 Offspring from the tested Animal when calculating Yearling Weight So in summary, it goes without saying that if you were selecting a bull for Birth Weight, it would be a lot more predictable to select a bull that already had information on 25 calves than a bull that didn’t have information on any calves and only relied on information from his sire and dam and his own birth weight.

We wanted to start the sale catalog off with the two bulls in the sale that we have declared as the “Heifer Approved” sons of LT Affinity 6221. CML Pioneer 909G had an 82 lbs birth weight.

If you were to say that Lot 2 and 3 were genetically designed to be calving ease specialists, you would be correct. Lot 2 and 3 are full brothers that are embryos out of the easiest calving cow line that we have on the farm. These bulls will definitely deliver calving ease, but don’t expect the same weaning and yearling weights that the majority of the bulls in the sale will deliver.

This bull is one of the youngest in the sale and could very well turn out to be a diamond in the rough.

In addition to him being a month and a half younger than most of the bulls in the sale, the recip cow that he was on got hardware on us last summer and unfortunately did not provide this bull with the same milking ability that our other transplant calves received.
