Bespoke Poetry It’s not usual for couples to quote poetry during the ceremony, but what if you could read a poem written just for you? Katherine Ferrier of Thread can do just that — she’ll write an original poem, inspired by you, that she then mounts on a wooden block and types onto an archival scroll. You can also hire her to come to the reception where she’ll use her vintage typewriter to compose poems for your guests. As she says, “Give me a word, and I’ll write you a poem.” threadwrite.com/thread

Granite Staters are no strangers to active, outdoor lifestyles. Many couples here take advantage of our natural resources — places and activities that aren’t always ideal for jewelry. Silicone rings are becoming popular with people who want to leave the metal rings at home when it’s time to exercise. This both protects your traditional wedding rings and you. There are some truly nasty injuries that can happen when wearing rings in places you shouldn’t, such as ring avulsion, which made the news thanks to Jimmy Fallon’s accident (Google it at your own risk). As demand increases, more styles are becoming available. The stackable options for women and infinity design for men by Enso Rings are a great examples. ensorings.com

Elegance IN WHITE

Imagine getting married under an ancient pine tree encircled by a profusion of flowers and then celebrating in lush gardens with your guests. Alyssa Van Guilder of Apotheca Flowers and her incredible team shows how it can be done with unforgettable elegance. The setting is the Gardens at Uncanoonuc Mountain in Goffstown in mid-summer. There, with an allwhite theme, they demonstrate that, just because it’s an outdoor wedding, it doesn’t have to be overly casual or rustic, that some gorgeous touches can amplify the surroundings. Indeed, the result is stunning.

floral designer / stylist / coordinator ALYSSA VAN GUILDER, APOTHECA FLOWERS photographer LINDSAY HACKNEY PHOTOGRAPHY venue THE GARDENS AT UNCANOONUC MOUNTAIN

The wedding stationery features watercolor florals in soft yellow, cream and tangerine with luscious greenery and a custom monogram with hand calligraphy lettering. The invitation backing is a textured avocado green linen canvas stock. The dinner menus on page 53 have a custom arched shape and coordinating watercolor florals, calligraphy and banner. The bride and groom — starting their new life — get ready to celebrate.

New Hampshire Magazine’s BRIDE | 41

This bounteous bouquet in white allows the subtle change of tones in the neutral flowers and foliage to have a voice. “You’re able to play up the texture and movement, and still have a design that feels incredibly classy,” says Alyssa Van Guilder, who created the bouquet. It’s made up of soft yellow ranunculus, menthe roses, white peonies, white O’Hare garden roses, an assortment of ferns and foraged greenery, artemisia, pennycress, white thistle and more.

In the summer splendor of a flower garden, the couple has a quiet moment to relax on vintage lounge furniture before cocktail time. The fit-and-flare wedding dress, from Sottero & Midgley, features shimmering lace appliqués and bead detailing over tulle and Inessa jersey. The crisscross strap details accent the gown’s open back, completing the shoulder strap V-neckline.

New Hampshire Magazine’s BRIDE | 45

A barrel bar creates a unique display with a floral wall as a backdrop. The signature cocktail is a lemon and thyme vodka spritzer. Mint Moscow mule cocktails are paired with blackened fish tacos with cilantro, avocado and mango slaw. Set on leaves are mission figs with blue cheese and a prosciutto crisp. A beer wall custom designed by Peppers Artful Events is fun way to serve beer.

A flower-bedecked bureau provides an inviting spot for a display of local cheeses and homemade baguettes, accompanied by jams and fruits.

New Hampshire Magazine’s BRIDE | 49

Guests dine in two locations — one amid the trees, the other beneath a tent. They have a choice of two dishes; free-range chicken with farm-fresh baby vegetables, gratin dauphinoise and tarragon-scented pan jus lie, and New England bouillabaisse with lobster, shrimp, clams, mussels and halibut poached in a saffron broth with vegetables, Yukon gold potatoes and fresh herbs.

Luxurious floral centerpieces anchor the table settings of coupe-style heirloom smoke charger plates paired with gold Arezzo flatware. The table linens are gray tweed with hemstitch napkins.

New Hampshire Magazine’s BRIDE | 51

52 | New Hampshire Magazine’s BRIDE

Spring and the color yellow are the themes for the dessert display, created by Peppers Artful Events. Atop a white-washed table is a handcrafted selection of mini sweets — cake pops, lemon thyme tartlets and French macaroons. Adding to the mix are crème brûlée spoons, peach trifles, mini lemon cheesecakes and various candies, all playing on the color theme. The trendy naked cake is a blueberry poppy seed with lemon curd filling.

New Hampshire Magazine’s BRIDE | 53

Using a base of foraged New Hampshire greens, a floral spill was created atop the stone wall that acts as a backdrop to the sweetheart table. Adorning the table, yet another floral spill that uses a base of foraged greens and flowers such phalaenopsis orchids, roses, ranunculus and thistle, to name a few. “Details like chair sashes and herb or greenery sprigs on napkins are lovely touches,” says Van Guilder. The flower-bedecked tree at the ceremony site (opposite page) was created by layering foraged greens, then flowers and contrasting foliage, with several stems of white phalaenopsis orchids added as what Van Guilder calls “floral frosting.” 54 | New Hampshire Magazine’s BRIDE

Something Blue n e e r G

Weddings are joyful celebrations, but they can also be an opportunity to make an Earth-friendly statement. Whether it’s your venue, your table settings or your attire, you can choose to be green. Event planner Sorrell Downing took on the challenge (along with her amazing team) of creating a wedding that’s eco chic — not only environmentally conscious but also fabulous and fun. New Hampshire Magazine’s BRIDE | 57

Natural Beauty Set in an old mill building in historic Harrisville, the inspiration shoot features a sumptuous tablescape atop an old wooden farm table covered by a flax tablecloth. Bamboo chairs provide seating with a woven fiber rug beneath. Accents of greenery at each place setting complement a dramatic live-tree centerpiece. “They bring a natural beauty to the rest of the table,” says Downing. The eco-friendly theme is carried on with pottery — the soft pink plates — and wood — the scalloped chargers and flatware handles. Last but not least, the wine glasses are made from recycled wine bottles.

58 | New Hampshire Magazine’s BRIDE

The bride carries a bouquet made of king protea, tuberose, golden mustard rose, lepidium, rice flower, ranunculus, lady slipper orchid, anthurium and grevillea. It’s tied with a dyed silk ribbon. The flower girl, with a matching crown of flowers, sits in a high-back straw chair that adds a sculptural element. On the opposite page are shoes for the bride made from recycled water bottles.

The wedding stationery is minimalist, but the calligraphy adds a dramatic flair. Note the simple freshwater pearl stud earrings and the wedding rings, made of wood.

Uniquely Green Inspired by the work of florist Françoise Weeks, the botanical bow ties are made of flower buds, mini succulents, eucalyptus leaves and string-of-pearls, a succulent vine. The groom wears a bamboo fabric shirt. At left, the flower girl is dressed in hand-knit arm warmers and skirt made from Angora goat yarn.

Elemental Décor The simple, white cake — adorned only by white ribbons and a spray of greenery and flowers — sits atop cubbies that were once postal boxes. The greenery that decorates them is complemented by nearby hanging greenery rings.“They help to decorate the space and bring the natural elements to all corners of the room,” says Downing. At left is a hotel basket filled with chocolate goodies for the guests. To the right, a leather-bound guest book.

B O U TO N N I E R E S YOU'LL BOTH LOVE

Yes, it’s small, but it plays a big part in weddings. Most importantly, a boutonniere demonstrates the tie the groom has to the bride. He’s “wearing his lady’s colors,” a tradition born back in Medieval days when knights went off to battle with a scarf or a flower. The boutonniere also helps weave the wedding’s color theme. In search of the latest trends in boutonnieres, we asked Jacques Flower Shop in Manchester what couples were looking for this year. Designer Jessica Thompson came up with five, all of them absolutely gorgeous.

1

This charming English Garden boutonniere is made up of Dutch helleborus, ginestra, blue veronica, spray roses, parvifolia eucalyptus and silver dollar eucalyptus.

If you want Glam, this has it. It features a burgundy mini calla, lily grass and silver dollar eucalyptus, with metallic accents.

3

4 If Classic is your style, this boutonniere is the one. It has a blush “pink mondial” rose with dusty miller and seeded eucalyptus.

Perfect for spring, this boutonniere has a Dutch double tulip as a centerpiece, surrounded by blue delphinium, green “mojito” hydrangea, myrtle and Italian ruscus.

For a Rustic wedding, this boutonniere of echeveria succulent and assorted eucalyptus is just right.
