SUMMER CAMPS

The City of McKinney Parks and Recreation is proud to welcome you to the Apex Centre!

This city-run, 80,000-square-foot aquatics and fitness facility includes an indoor competition pool, indoor and outdoor leisure waters, indoor sauna, a supervised playroom, classrooms and party rooms. The Apex Centre features a fitness facility with Precor, LifeFitness and Hammer Strength equipment, a gymnasium, basketball courts and an elevated track. The facility offers annual, monthly and daily memberships for youth, adults, seniors and families, as well as resident and non-resident rates.

MEMBERSHIP REFUND POLICY

Join today!

Memberships and day passes can be purchased anytime during operating hours. Fees vary by residency and age.

• Youth: 3-17 years of age

• Adult: 18-59 years of age

• Senior: 60+ years of age

• McKinney Residents: Are those who own a home, a business, or are employed by a business that pays property taxes to the City of McKinney. Proof of residency, ownership or employment in McKinney is required.*

• Family: No more than two adult and dependents that are 23 years of age or younger in school or living at home. It also includes persons with special needs living as a single household unit at the same address. Proof of age and dependent status is required. Family Day Passes consists of up to two adults and up to four dependents.

Fees and passes include unlimited use of noninstructional aquatics, fitness equipment, indoor track, gym, non-specialty group and exercise classes. Day passes do not include Playroom usage.

A 30-day written notice is required for all cancelations. Annual memberships are non-refundable except during the first 30-day opt-out period. After 30-days, a onemonth fee at the monthly rate, plus a $75 service charge, will be deducted from the annual membership’s refund amount. Monthly memberships will still be charged the $75 non-refundable enrollment fee unless it is within 90 days of holding a previous membership.

ANNUAL MEMBERSHIP TRANSFER POLICY

Individual or family annual members may transfer their membership to another individual or family.

• Resident to Non-Resident Recipient – required to pay the resident/non-resident price difference.

• Non-Resident to Resident Recipient – no refund for the price difference.

*PROOF OF RESIDENCY

You must provide proof of residency, ownership or employment in McKinney upon your first membership registration. Acceptable forms of proof include but not limited to:

• Valid driver’s license, state ID card, current electric, gas, water or trash bill with name and address, and proof of McKinney business ownership or employment in McKinney.

FREEZE

All minimum 30-day freeze requests must be submitted in writing by completing a Freeze Request Form or emailing ApexMem@McKinneyTexas.org. A freeze takes effect on the day requested and cannot be implemented for future dates. Unfreeze a membership at the Customer Service Desk. Cost: $10/month and is non-refundable. Zumba Toning

Join this unique class choreographed to primarily Latin music with light hand weights (1-3 lbs.) in your hands. It incorporates toning moves with weights, lunges, squats and more core than regular Zumba.

Dream Soccer

Experience that first goal moment with your child through Dream Soccer. Aside from learning how to dribble and strike a soccer ball, students will learn general coordination, motor skills, and body control through many fun games and drills.

Youth Yoga

Our youth yoga series is a combination of introductory-led yoga, breathing techniques, stretching and creative games which together help to improve attention span and focus in a fun-filled way.

Skyhawks Flag Football

Get the perfect introduction to “America’s Game” or an excellent refresher to brush up on skills and prepare for league play. Participants will learn core components: passing, catching, de-flagging and defensive positioning.

On your mark. Get set. Go! Skyhawks Track & Field teaches fundamental techniques and safety with a major focus on fun. Using special equipment, participants will learn body positioning, stride, proper stretching and cool-down techniques.

The Apex Centre offers semi-private 2-week sessions and one-on-one private lessons. Series Subscription includes three consecutive 2-week sessions for a total of 24 classes (not available for private lessons). Levels are based on water competency. Ages and class sizes may vary.

• Fundamentals – floating, breath control, front and back swimming, entry and exit.

Level 2 • Ages 4–8

• Focus on building independence on backstroke and freestyle, basic rotary breathing.

Level 3 • Ages 6–12

• Prerequisite: Backstroke and freestyle with rotary breathing at a 15-yard distance.

• Focus on body movements and water positioning for future strokes.

Level 4 • Ages 6–12

• Prerequisite: Swim backstroke and freestyle at a 25yard distance.

• Focus on increasing endurance from previous level strokes with the introduction of breaststroke, dolphin kick, and basic turns.

• Prerequisite: Swim backstroke, freestyle, and breaststroke at a 50-yard distance.

• Focus on stroke proficiency and endurance training with 300 yards swam each class. Plus, the introduction of the butterfly stroke.

Teens • Ages 12–18

• Prerequisite: Swim backstroke, freestyle, and breaststroke at a 50-yard distance.

• Great for entry-level swimming or for those on the swim team looking to improve technique and endurance.

Adult • Ages 18+

• Beginner: Designed for adults with little to no skill level to get more comfortable in the water

• Advanced: Designed for adults with intermediate to high skill levels. Focus on endurance training, treading water in 12 ft deep water, and stroke technique.

POLICIES

CODE OF CONDUCT

The following Code of Conduct is applicable to all who visit or participate in center programs, services and activities. As a member, participant or guest you agree to:

1. Understand that the Apex Centre is a controlled access facility. All persons entering the facility must have a membership, day pass or participate in a feefor-service recreation program.

2. Behave in a courteous and respectful manner towards others. All users are required to conduct themselves in a manner that does not interfere with another person’s enjoyment of the facility.

3. Refrain from behavior, dress or language that is abusive, threatening or disruptive to others.

4. Respect personal belongings of others and Apex Centre property. Destruction or defacement of city property, including litter, is prohibited.

5. Responsibly secure your own personal belongings. The Apex Centre is not responsible for lost or stolen items.

6. Act honestly. Sharing membership cards is considered theft of service and falsifying Apex Centre membership forms is considered forgery. It is also your responsibility to notify staff in a timely manner of any address, phone number or household changes.

7. Keep the Apex Centre a substance-free environment and immediately report all alcohol, tobacco, e-cigarette and illegal drug use.

8. Photography or video recording is permitted at all City of McKinney facilities and events on city-owned property, except where posted otherwise. The City of McKinney reserves the right to require a person to leave the premises or cease taking photos or using a video device if city staff finds such behavior to be disruptive.

9. Soliciting individuals in the Apex Centre for personal business or agencies without prior approval from the facility management team is prohibited. Including, but is not limited to, posting flyers, business cards and/or advertising materials. Private or group instruction of any type is not permitted unless contracted through the Apex Centre.

10. All users are required to clean equipment with the provided EPA-approved sanitation wipe after each use.

11. Follow all written rules, policies, and verbal instructions from staff. Specialty areas of the facilities (example: fitness floors and pools) have posted signs stating special rules specific to that area. Staff is authorized to take all necessary steps to enforce all rules and policies. Failure to comply with these rules, policies and verbal instructions may result in the suspension and/or revocation of your facility privileges by staff or police for a designated length of time or permanently, including the forfeiture of all paid fees.

AGE REQUIREMENTS FITNESS FLOOR

• No children under the age of 13 are allowed on the fitness floor.

• Children ages 13 years or older are allowed on the fitness floor. However, it is mandatory for all teens, ages 13-15, to attend the Teen Orientation class if they wish to workout on the fitness floor without a parent. Teen Orientations are available every Tuesday at 6 p.m.

• Fitness & Recreation Orientations are available on the second Wednesday of each month.

GROUP EXERCISE

• Group exercise classes are open to ages 13 and up except for family group exercise classes. Please refer to the class schedule found on our website, ApexCentre.org/fitness.

GYMNASIUM

• Children under the age of 10 must be directly supervised by an individual 16 years or older.

INDOOR TRACK

• Children under the age of 10 years must be accompanied by an individual 16 years or older.

• Children under the age of 13 years can utilize the corners of the track while accompanied by an individual 16 years or older.

POOL AGE

• Children ages 6 years and younger must be accompanied by an individual 16 years or older. The individual must be wearing a bathing suit and be in the water within arm’s length at all times.

• Children ages 7-9 years must be accompanied by an individual 16 years or older in the aquatic area.

• Children ages 10 and older may utilize the aquatic area without adult supervision.

SUPERVISED PLAYROOM

• A supervised playroom is available for children ages 3 months – 9 years.

CLASS LOCATIONS

• All classes, activities, programs and events are at the Apex Centre unless otherwise noted.

CLASS REGISTRATION DEADLINE

• Program registration is open to members and nonmembers on a first-come, first-served basis.

• Early registration is encouraged.

• Registrations close the Friday before the class begins, unless otherwise noted.

• Register online, in person or over the phone.

CLASS MAKEUP POLICY

• If a class is cancelled due to inclement weather, the Apex Centre staff will notify all participants at least one hour before class begins.

• Any class missed will not be made up.

• Cancellations by the facility are rescheduled within reasonable parameters.

• For questions, call 972-547-2739.

CLASS REFUND OR TRANSFER POLICY

• If class is cancelled due to low enrollment or other circumstances, you can transfer to another class or receive a full refund.

• Participant-initiated refunds and transfers will be granted when participants 1) submit a transfer or refund request at least five business days prior to the class start date, 2) moves from the area and notifies the staff at least five business days prior to the class start date, 3) becomes ill, in which a doctor’s statement must be presented upon request.

• If a refund/transfer is not requested and applied to the merchandise or program within 90 days then the refund/transfer will be forfeited.

INCLEMENT WEATHER POLICY

• The pools will be closed when lightning occurs.

• If we are unable to reopen after thirty minutes, the pool will close and attempt to reopen later in the day.

• This policy is in effect until one hour prior to official closing time. This affects indoor and outdoor pool operations.

RAIN CHECK POLICY

• In the event of a pool closure due to inclement weather, you may request your receipt to be stamped for a rain check.

• You must have been present in the pool areas less than two hours for the rain check policy to apply.

• Management reserves the right to suspend operation and/or close the pools at any time and initiate the rain check policy.

PHOTO/VIDEO DISCLAIMER

• Photography or video recording is permitted at all City of McKinney facilities and events on city-owned property, except where posted otherwise.

• The City of McKinney reserves the right to require a person to leave the premises or cease taking photos or using a video device if city staff finds such behavior to be disruptive.

• By their use of the City of McKinney facilities, participants in programs and special events grant permission to the City of McKinney to take photos and videos of themselves and their children for publication in the program brochure, website and additional uses as the city deems necessary, unless the registrant or participant expressly files a written request as to the use of photos or videos of themselves and/or their children.

• All professional photography on city-owned property must be approved through the City of McKinney’s Communication and Marketing Department.

WARNING OF RISK

• Recreational activities/programs are intended to challenge and engage the physical, mental and emotional resources of each participant. Despite careful and proper preparation, instruction, medical advice, conditioning and equipment, there is still a risk of serious injury when participating in any recreational activity/program. Understandably, not all hazards and dangers can be foreseen.

• Depending on the particular activity, participants must understand that certain risks, dangers and injuries due to inclement weather, slipping, falling, poor skill level or conditioning, carelessness, horseplay, unsportsmanlike conduct, premises defects, inadequate or defective equipment, inadequate supervision, instruction or officiating and all other circumstances inherent to indoor and outdoor recreational activities/programs exist.

• In this regard, it must be recognized that it is impossible for the City of McKinney to guarantee absolute safety.
