SCHOOL’S OUT CAMPS

The City of McKinney Parks and Recreation is proud to welcome you to the Apex Centre!

This city-run, 80,000-square-foot aquatics and fitness facility includes an indoor competition pool, indoor and outdoor leisure waters, a supervised playroom, classrooms and party rooms. The Apex Centre features a fitness facility with Precor, LifeFitness and Hammer Strength equipment, a gymnasium, basketball courts and an elevated track.

The city and McKinney Community Development Corporation (MCDC) teamed up to build the $36 million aquatics and fitness center in Gabe Nesbitt Community Park. The facility offers annual, monthly and daily memberships for youth, adults, seniors and families, as well as resident and non-resident rates.

Memberships and day passes can be purchased anytime during operating hours. Fees vary by residency and age.

• Youth: 3-17 years of age

• Adult: 18-59 years of age

• Senior: 60+ years of age

• McKinney Residents: Are those who own a home, a business, or are employed by a business that pays property taxes to the City of McKinney. Proof of residency, ownership or employment in McKinney is required.*

• Family: No more than two adult heads of household and dependents that are 23 years of age or younger in school or living at home. It also includes persons with special needs living as a single household unit at the same address.

Fees and passes include unlimited use of noninstructional aquatics, fitness equipment, indoor track, gym, non-specialty group and exercise classes. Day passes do not include Playroom usage.

All guests and day pass visitors must sign a waiver. Minors under 18 years old must have a waiver signed by a parent or guardian.

ANNUAL MEMBERSHIP REFUND POLICY

Annual memberships are non-refundable except during the first 30-day opt-out period.

30-DAY OPT-OUT PERIOD

Annual members may only request a refund within the first 30 days from the date of purchase. All requests must be submitted in writing, either by filling out the form or emailing ApexMem@McKinneyTexas.org. A one-month fee at the monthly rate, plus a $75 service charge, will be deducted from the annual membership’s refund amount when the refund is issued.

ANNUAL MEMBERSHIP TRANSFER POLICY

Individual or family annual members may transfer the membership to another individual or family. If the individual or family receiving the annual membership is a non-resident of the City of McKinney, the receiving party will be required to pay the difference between the resident annual membership fee and the non-resident annual membership fee. If a non-resident annual membership is transferring their annual membership to a resident of the City of McKinney, there is no refund for the price difference.

*PROOF OF RESIDENCY

You must provide proof of residency, ownership or employment in McKinney the first time you register in order to receive the resident rate. Once in our system, you will not need to prove residency again unless your address changes. Acceptable forms of proof include but not limited to a valid driver’s license, state identification card or a current electric, gas, water or trash bill showing your name and address. McKinney residency is verified using the Collin Central Appraisal District website. Persons who own a business or are employed in McKinney and provide proof will receive the resident membership rate.

FREEZE

Members may request to freeze their membership without providing a reason. All requests must be submitted in writing, by completing a Freeze Request Form or emailing ApexMem@McKinneyTexas.org. A freeze takes effect on the day requested; we cannot implement freezes for future dates. All freezes must be a minimum of 30 days. Unfreezing a membership can be done at the Customer Service Desk at any time, with the assistance of a Manager on Duty or Customer Service Supervisor. For changes or inquiries regarding an existing account, email ApexMem@McKinneyTexas.org.

Annual Membership Freeze

• All annual memberships must be unfrozen prior to their original expiration date to use the benefit of extending the membership

MONTHLY MEMBERSHIP

For those individuals choosing the recurring monthly payment option, a 30-day written notice is required to discontinue the deduction. A $75 non-refundable enrollment fee applies at the time of purchase unless it is within 90 days of holding a previous membership.

Skyhawks Volleyball

Private Swim Lessons

Work one-on-one with a private swim instructor. On the first day, the instructor will evaluate skill level and develop a specialized curriculum to meet the needs of the participants

Swim Lesson Level 1

Swim Level 1 is designed for children ages 3-5 without parent in-water participation. It focuses on the fundamentals of floating, breath control, and swimming on the front and back, along with proper water entry and exit instruction. This is a semi-private swimming lesson that provides personalized instruction and experience for swimmers. Class size: 2-4 participants.

Swim Lesson Level 2

Swim Level 2 is designed for children ages 4-8 and focuses on building swimming independence on the backstroke and freestyle, emphasizing basic rotary breathing. This is a semi-private swimming lesson that provides personalized instruction and experience for swimmers. Class size: 2-4 participants.

Swim Lesson Level 3

Swim Level 3 is designed for children ages 6-12 that can swim backstroke and freestyle with basic rotary breathing a distance of 15 yards. This class focuses on body movement and position in the water for future strokes such as breaststroke. Swim Lesson Level 4

Swim Level 4 is designed for children ages 6-12 that can swim backstroke and freestyle a distance of 25 yards. This class focuses on increasing endurance with previous level’s strokes and an introduction to breaststroke, dolphin kick, and basic turns. This is a semi-private swimming lesson that provides personalized instruction and experience for swimmers. Class size: 2-4 participants.

Swim Lesson Level 5

Swim Level 5 is designed for children ages 6-12 that can swim backstroke, freestyle, and breaststroke at a distance of 50 yards. This class focuses on stroke proficiency and endurance training with 300 yards swam each class. This class will also introduce the butterfly stroke. This is a semi-private swimming lesson that provides personalized instruction and experience for swimmers. Class size: 2-4 participants.

Swim Lessons Adult Beginner

Adult swim is designed for adults ages 18+ with little to no skill level. This class focuses on the individuals’ need to get more comfortable in the water.

Adult swim is designed for adults ages 18+ with intermediate to high skill level. This class focuses on the individuals’ need to work on endurance training, treading water in 12 feet of water, and stroke technique.

CLEANING, SANITIZING AND SAFETY

• All sanitizing and disinfectant products are EPAapproved / registered.

• Increased staffing levels assist with higher frequency of cleaning of high touch points in the facility.

• All members are required to wipe down the equipment they use with a sanitation wipe provided by the Apex Centre.

CLASS LOCATIONS

• All classes, activities, programs and events are at the Apex Centre unless otherwise noted.

CLASS REGISTRATION DEADLINE

• Program registration is open to members and nonmembers on a first-come, first-served basis.

• Early registration is encouraged.

• Registrations close the Friday before the class begins, unless otherwise noted.

• Register online, in person or over the phone.

CLASS MAKEUP POLICY

• If a class is cancelled due to inclement weather, the Apex Centre staff will notify all participants at least one hour before class begins.

• Any class missed will not be made up.

• Cancellations by the facility are rescheduled within reasonable parameters.

CLASS REFUND OR TRANSFER POLICY

• If class is cancelled due to low enrollment or other circumstances, you can transfer to another class or receive a full refund.

• Participant-initiated refunds and transfers will be granted when participants 1) submit a transfer or refund request at least five business days prior to the class start date, 2) moves from the area and notifies the staff at least five business days prior to the class start date, 3) becomes ill, in which a doctor’s statement must be presented upon request.

• If a refund/transfer is not requested and applied to the merchandise or program within 90 days then the refund/transfer will be forfeited.

RAIN CHECK POLICY

• In the event of a pool closure due to inclement weather, you may request your receipt to be stamped for a rain check.

• You must have been present in the pool areas less than two hours for the rain check policy to apply.

• Management reserves the right to suspend operation and/or close the pools at any time and initiate the rain check policy.

INCLEMENT WEATHER POLICY

• The pools will be closed when lightning occurs.

• If we are unable to reopen after thirty minutes, the pool will close and attempt to reopen later in the day.

• This policy is in effect until one hour prior to official closing time. This affects indoor and outdoor pool operations.

• Due to the large amount of information available in this guide, errors before or after publication may occur.

• We will keep information on our website as current as possible.

FACILITIES

• All facility participants are expected to follow the rules of the facilities. Specialty areas of the facilities (example: fitness center and pools) have posted signs stating special rules specific to that area.

• Disregard or abuse of facility rules may result in removal by staff or police from the facility for a designated length of time or permanently.

PHOTO/VIDEO DISCLAIMER

• Photography or video recording is permitted at all City of McKinney facilities and events on city-owned property, except where posted otherwise.

• The City of McKinney reserves the right to require a person to leave the premises or cease taking photos or using a video device if city staff finds such behavior to be disruptive.

• By their use of the City of McKinney facilities, participants in programs and special events grant permission to the City of McKinney to take photos and videos of themselves and their children for publication in the program brochure, website and additional uses as the city deems necessary, unless the registrant or participant expressly files a written request as to the use of photos or videos of themselves and/or their children.

• All professional photography on city-owned property must be approved through the City of McKinney’s Communication and Marketing Department.

WARNING OF RISK

• Recreational activities/programs are intended to challenge and engage the physical, mental and emotional resources of each participant. Despite careful and proper preparation, instruction, medical advice, conditioning and equipment, there is still a risk of serious injury when participating in any recreational activity/program. Understandably, not all hazards and dangers can be foreseen.

• Depending on the particular activity, participants must understand that certain risks, dangers and injuries due to inclement weather, slipping, falling, poor skill level or conditioning, carelessness, horseplay, unsportsmanlike conduct, premises defects, inadequate or defective equipment, inadequate supervision, instruction or officiating and all other circumstances inherent to indoor and outdoor recreational activities/programs exist.

• In this regard, it must be recognized that it is impossible for the City of McKinney to guarantee absolute safety.

WAIVER REQUIRED Waivers are required for all guests and day pass visitors on the first visit. Waivers for minors must be signed by a parent or legal guardian.

AGE REQUIREMENTS

FITNESS FLOOR

• No children under the age of 13 are allowed on the fitness floor.

• Children ages 13 years or older are allowed on the fitness floor. However, it is now mandatory for all Teens, ages 13-15, to attend the Teen Orientation class if they wish to workout on the fitness floor without a parent. Teen Orientations are available every Tuesday at 6 p.m.

• Adult Fitness Floor orientations are available every second Wednesday at 12 & 6 p.m. and second Saturday at 12 p.m.

GROUP EXERCISE

• Group exercise classes are open to ages 13 and up except for family group exercise classes. Please refer to the class schedule found on our website, ApexCentre.org/fitness.

• A variety of group exercise classes are also livestreamed. Registration required through the Spivi App Class Scheduler.

GYMNASIUM

• Children under the age of 10 must be directly supervised by an individual 16 years or older.

INDOOR TRACK

• Children under the age of 10 years must be accompanied by an individual 16 years or older.

• Children under the age of 13 years can utilize the corners of the track while accompanied by an individual 16 years or older.

POOL AGE

• Children ages 6 years and younger must be accompanied by an individual 16 years or older. The individual must be wearing a bathing suit and be in the water within arm’s length at all times.

• Children ages 7-9 years must be accompanied by an individual 16 years or older in the aquatic area.

• Children ages 10 and older may utilize the aquatic area without adult supervision.

SUPERVISED PLAYROOM

• A supervised playroom is available for children ages 3 months to 9 years.

CODE OF CONDUCT

The following Code of Conduct is applicable to all who visit or participate in center programs, services and activities. As a member, participant or guest you agree to:

1. Understand that the Apex Centre is a controlled access facility. All persons entering the facility must have a membership, day pass or participate in a feefor-service recreation program.

2. Behave in a courteous and respectful manner towards others. All users are required to conduct themselves in a manner that does not interfere with another person’s enjoyment of the facility.

3. Refrain from behavior, dress or language that is abusive, threatening or disruptive to others.

4. Respect personal belongings of others and Apex Centre property. Destruction or defacement of city property, including litter, is prohibited.

5. Responsibly secure your own personal belongings. The Apex Centre is not responsible for lost or stolen items.

6. Act honestly. Sharing membership cards is considered theft of service and falsifying Apex Centre membership forms is considered forgery. It is also your responsibility to notify staff in a timely manner of any address, phone number or household changes.

7. Keep the Apex Centre a substance-free environment and immediately report all alcohol, tobacco, e-cigarette and illegal drug use.

8. Photography or video recording is permitted at all City of McKinney facilities and events on city-owned property, except where posted otherwise. The City of McKinney reserves the right to require a person to leave the premises or cease taking photos or using a video device if city staff finds such behavior to be disruptive.

9. Soliciting individuals in the Apex Centre for personal business or agencies without prior approval from the facility management team is prohibited. Including, but is not limited to, posting flyers, business cards and/or advertising materials. Private or group instruction of any type is not permitted unless contracted through the Apex Centre.

10. Follow all written rules, policies, and verbal directions by staff. The Apex Centre staff is authorized to take all necessary steps to enforce this Code of Conduct. Failure to comply with this Code of Conduct may result in the suspension and/or revocation of your facility privileges and forfeiture of paid fees.

11. Clean and sanitize equipment after each use.
