FACTS - Alpha Phi Alpha™, the first intercollegiate Greekletter fraternity established for African American Men, was founded on December 4, 1906™ at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York by seven college men who recognized the need for a strong bond of brotherhood among African descendants in this country. The seven visionary founders, known as the “Jewels” of the fraternity, are Henry Arthur Callis, Charles Henry Chapman, Eugene Kinckle Jones, George Biddle Kelley, Nathaniel Allison Murray, Robert Harold Ogle, and Vertner Woodson Tandy. FOUNDATION - Principles of scholarship, fellowship, good character, and the uplifting of humanity.
NOTABLE MEMBERS - W.E.B. DuBois, Adam Clayton Powell, Jr., Edward Brooke, Martin Luther King, Jr., Thurgood Marshall, Andrew Young, William Gray, Paul Robeson, and many others.

FACTS - Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated ® (AKA), an international service organization, founded on the campus of Howard University in Washington, D.C. in 1908. Led by Ethel Hedgemon (Lyle), nine juniors and seniors constituted the founding members, with seven sophomores later invited to join. It is the oldest Greek-letter organization established by African American college-educated women. There are more than 355,000 initiated members in graduate and undergraduate chapters located in 12 countries. FOUNDATION To cultivate and encourage high scholastic and ethical standards; to promote unity and friendship among college women; to study and help alleviate problems concerning girls and women in order to improve their social stature; to maintain a progressive interest in college life; and to be of “Service to All Mankind.” NOTABLE MEMBERS – Vice President Kamala Harris, Toni Morrison, Maya Angelou, Mae Jemison, Phylicia Rashad, Althea Gibson, Coretta Scott King, Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, and many others.

Unique Facts About JSU: Home of the world-renowned band, the famous Sonic Boom of the South! JSU Homecoming Tradition: JSU has a homecoming tradition for all alumni to return to "The Yard" on the Friday before homecoming to reunite and reminisce on the good ol' days. Most greeks come back and prepare to stroll or "set it owt" to show that they still got IT and its good vibes all around. Favorite Homecoming Memory: Homecoming 2018 was the 10-year anniversary for my line, the 47 S.I.L.E.N.C.E.C.C. While I'm no stranger to setting owt the yard, I don't recall there being so many phones to capture the moment. When it came time for my chapter to do our signature stroll and I found myself at the front of the line, I had no idea my photo and videos would end up all over the internet. LOL! #GoodTimes
