McKee Library is available for instruction throughout the summer and can help you prepare for future courses Your librarians are happy to provide information literacy instruction for on campus, hybrid, and online courses. Information Literacy Information literacy instruction is available throughout the summer. Sessions can be scheduled in person or via Zoom. Please contact Melissa Hortemiller at mhortemiller@ southern.edu to schedule your instruction session. It is not too early to schedule for Fall 2021!
Designing Research Assignments Effective research assignments help your students develop appropriate information literacy skills, think critically, and responsibly use web resources. Your librarians are able to partner with you as you plan for research assignments for your courses. Embedded Librarian The embedded librarian service is available throughout the summer.
This service works well for distance education courses and courses with research assignments that require the use of outside sources. Additional information about the service can be found on our website. Please contact Donald Martin (allied health, physical therapy, and nursing courses) or Jessica Spears (all other courses) to request the embedded librarian service for your summer course. Online Modules McKee Library’s
information literacy modules are available through the “Services for Faculty” tab on our website. These modules are available both as stand-alone instructional components and also as complete learning units. Select modules include automatically graded quizzes that integrate with your eClass grade book. Tools&Resources American National Biography
The American National Biography database, published by Oxford University Press, contains biographies of more than 19,000 men and women — from all eras and walks of life — whose lives have shaped American history and culture. From missionaries to musicians, social workers to statisticians, cowboys to chemists, and Vikings
to astronauts, the portraits in the American National Biography database reflect the rich diversity of American life from pre-colonial times to the present day. The database features thousands of illustrations, and tens of thousands of hyperlinked cross-references and links to other websites. New biographies are added to the database on a regular

Have you ever been curious about what titles are available at other institutions? WorldCat provides you with an easy way to search the world library catalog. WorldCat is a union catalog that itemizes the collections of 15,600 libraries in 107 countries that participate in the OCLC. This database includes

Spotlight on the French Collection
Oeuvres Complètes de Voltaire, Vol 15 is part of McKee Library’s French Collection. This work, published in 1784, is just one of several first edition Voltaire works in the library’s collection. About the Collection McKee Library’s French Collection consists of 105 titles and 189 volumes of works mostly written in French. The collection spans 255 years, with its earliest book published in 1711 and the most recent in 1966. It includes works by notable authors such as Voltaire, Montesquieu, and Flaubert. Although most of the titles are written in French, a few are written in Italian, English, German, and Latin. The collection covers a variety of subjects including history, philosophy, and literary criticism and also contains novels, memoirs, poetry, and
the
plays. The items in the French Collection were compiled from a rare books expert with close ties to some prominent members of the Chattanooga community who owned extensive historical book collections. Many of the books have been digitized and are available for online perusal. The physical items may be seen for research purposes and by appointment only. Questions?
