Tools&Resources Academic Video Online

Academic Video Online (AVON) is a comprehensive, multidisciplinary streaming video subscription, which includes over 74,000 videos covering a variety of material available with curricular relevance: documentaries, interviews, feature films, performances, news programs and newsreels, and demonstrations. Students will find thousands of award-winning films, including Academy®, Emmy®, and Peabody® winners. Faculty will find frequently used films for classroom instruction, plus newly released films and previously unavailable archival material. The collection represents content from over 800 leading distributors, producers, and filmmakers. In addition, AVON supports the entire range of curriculum. Some of the subjects covered include American history, world history, anthropology, Asian studies, art & architecture, African American studies, business & economics, classical music, cooking,

counseling & therapy, engineering, environmental studies, global issues, literature, newsreels, education, science, media studies, politics & current affairs, film, nursing, health policy, psychology, rehabilitation therapy, religion, social theory, sports medicine/exercise science, and women’s studies. Classroom Use Films available in AVON include limited public performance rights, which includes permission for classroom showings, as well as public screenings, as long as no admission is being charged. Engraved Image of Abraham Lincoln on Display

This engraved image of Abraham Lincoln by artist John Sartain is on permament display at McKee Library and is part of the Thomas Memorial Collection. The image depicts Lincoln in his younger years and contains the unverified signature of Abraham Lincoln. About the Collection Included in this collection are more than 2,700 volumes as well as authentic photos concerning Abraham Lincoln and the Civil War. A $10 check signed by Lincoln is also part of the collection. Dr. Vernon L. Thomas, along with Dr. Russell C. Slater and John W. Fling, Jr., contributed books, photos, periodicals, and other memorabilia concerning

Abraham Lincoln and the Civil War. The collection was opened to the public on July 4, 1976.
