WE ARE CELEBRATING 50 YEARS!
McKee Library celebrates 50 years of service this academic year McKee Library is excited to celebrate 50 years since our grand opening on September 24, 1970. Since that time, McKee Library has continued to innovate in order to meet the needs of our campus community. Sweet Celebration On September 24, 2020, we celebrated by providing a sweet, individually wrapped treat to those who stopped by the library. We also featured a McKee Library Scavenger Hunt, which asked students to visit five locations around campus that had historical meaning to the library. You can view selections from that virtual scavenger hunt on the library’s Facebook and
Instagram. Banners We are featuring eight banners on the main floor of the library that explore the library’s rich history of growth and innovation on campus. We encourage all faculty to visit the library to view these banners this semester. Additionally, large banners (like the one seen here to the right) are hanging near the library’s entrance. Digitized version of the banners can be viewed in KnowledgeExchange@ Southern.

McKee Library welcomes Shelly Merryman to our team McKee Library is excited to welcome Shelly Merryman to McKee Library. Shelly is serving as the Tutoring Center office manager. Shelly Merryman is a ‘98 BSW graduate of Southern Adventist University. After graduating from SAU she returned to her hometown in Maryland, to attend the University of Maryland Baltimore in

order to complete its MSW program. While there, she married her Southern sweetheart, Jason Merryman. Shortly after graduating from UMB she and her husband decided to start a family. She has spent the last 13 years being a stay at home mom, raising and homeschooling their three beautiful kids. She is excited to be back on Southern’s campus, this time helping students and making a difference in their college career.
BAINUM ART EXHIBIT
Dr. Tim Bainum’s works are on exhibit on the second floor McKee Library is excited to display the colorful creative works of alumnus Tim Bainum, M.D. Dr. Bainum began his journey as an artist at 10 years old, when he first painted with oils. He learned several techniques from his great-aunts, who were talented, self-taught landscape artists. His interest in art further developed during his time at Southern; while pursuing his premed degree, he took art appreciation and ceramics
classes as electives, and he thoroughly enjoyed learning about art history. His palette is often violets, blues, and colors of the sunset, and he draws much inspiration from the landscapes he encounters living along the Caddo River in southwest Arkansas. Tools&Resources Business Source Ultimate
Business Source Ultimate is a collection of resources for the business student. You can search thousands of full-text journals for information on accounting, administration, banking, economics, finance, human resources, management, and marketing. The Company Information feature allows students to receive detailed information
on finances, subsidiaries, products, employees and industry specifics for more than 1.1 million of the world’s largest public and private companies. Also, the content in context feature allows students to investigate a company through contextual access to related information including case studies, industry profiles, SWOT analyses,

Hidden Feature Information Literacy Modules McKee Library’s instruction team is pleased to offer web-based, self-paced information literacy modules which can be easily integrated into eClass. These modules are available both as stand-alone instructional components and also as units, as outlined on our website. Video lengths typically range between two and five
minutes. Tutorials include text, activities, and ungraded self-check points. To take advantage of the ungraded content (videos and tutorials), simply use the links on our website to access the resource in a McKee Library research guide. Custom Content The modules are purchased and cannot be
customized for individual courses. However, the librarian are happy to create a custom tutorial for your course upon request. Questions? Please contact Jessica Spears for more information on the information literacy modules or to request a custom tutorial for your course.

McKee Library celebrates our 50th anniversary on September 24, 2020
During the opening ceremonies of McKee Library, held on September 24, 1960, Mrs. Gertrude Battle presented the library with a family Bible. Mrs. Battle, a retired Bible instructor, had personally and thoroughly indexed the Bible according to various topics. About Gertrude Battle Gertrude Battle was born on August 16, 1900 in Hampton, Virginia. She worked for many years as a Bible instructor, eventually retiring in 1967 in Collegedale, Tennessee. After her retirement, Mrs. Battle spent time researching and creating an internationally known Bible marking system. According to her obituary in the Southern Tidings, Mrs. Battle had personally marked Bibles for thousands of individuals.
She also taught numerous classes, including courses at Southern Missionary College. The Marked Word In 1996, an edition of her Bible marking plan, The Marked Word, was published by the Review and Herald. A copy of this book is part of McKee Library’s collection and is available to view upon request.
