A Man Named Pearl

Directed by Scott Galloway and Brent Pierson Recommended by Deyse Bravo-Rivera SB470 .F79 M36 2008 A Man Named Pearl tells the inspiring story of self-taught topiary artist Pearl Fryar, whose unlikely journey to national prominence began with a bigoted remark. This touchstone of cycling literature begins to answer these questions as it follows one rider over the course of five hours as he engages in the protracted struggle, mental as much as physical, of an amateur biker race in a sleepy corner of southern France, and in so doing captures, at very short length, the entirety of the cycling experience (Bicycling Magazine, Oct 2017).
